PHOTOMER 4017 (HDDA) is a commercial trade name for 1,6-Hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA). Produced by IGM Resins, PHOTOMER 4017 is a low-viscosity, difunctional reactive monomer used primarily as a diluent and crosslinker in UV and Electron Beam (EB) curable coatings, inks, adhesives, and photopolymers.

PHOTOMER 4017 (HDDA) is particularly useful for use in ultraviolet light cure applications.

Preparation
The material is prepared by acid-catalyzed esterification of 1,6-hexanediol with acrylic acid.

Clear yellow liquid with a mild ester-like odor.

Application :
Photomer 4017 has low viscosity, low volatilization and fast curing properties, and can be used in an be used for wood coatings, PVC coatings, plastic coatings, metal coatings, offset printing inks, flexographic printing, screen printing, overprint varnishes,etc.
Good plastic adhesion.
This product has certain adhesion to most plastics, such as ABS, PMMA, PC, ABS+PC, etc.
Strong dilution.
Photomer 4017 (HDDA) has stronger dilution ability than TPGDA, DPGDA, TMPTA and other traditional bulk monomers.

1,6-Hexanediol diacrylate can be used as:
A monomer for the synthesis of poly(1,6-hexanediol diacrylate) (PHDA)-based polymer microspheres and bifunctional microcapsules. 
The resulting PHDA-based polymer embedded with TiO2 nanoparticles finds uses in various potential applications in fields such as sensing, drug delivery, and photonics.
A sensitizer in the UV-curable inks commonly used in the printing industry.
A cross-linking agent in conjunction with a photocatalytic system to modify cellulose material. 
The resulting crosslinked cellulose material finds uses in various potential applications such as paper manufacturing, textiles, and biomedical devices.
A monomer in the synthesis of polyurethane acrylate (PUA) which is used to produce polymer electrolytes for use in lithium batteries.
1,6-Hexanedioldiacrylate can be used as a starting material to synthesize:

Other uses
As the molecule has acrylic functionality, Photomer 4017 (HDDA) is capable of undergoing the Michael reaction with an amine. 
This allows Photomer 4017 (HDDA) use in epoxy chemistry where its use speeds up the cure time considerably.

Safety and Handling
Like many acrylate monomers, Photomer 4017 can cause skin and eye irritation. 
Prolonged or repeated exposure may lead to allergic contact dermatitis.
