Kotilen-20) is a polysorbate-type nonionic surfactant formed by the ethoxylation of sorbitan monolaurate.
As the name implies the ethoxylation process leaves the molecule with 20 repeat units of polyethylene glycol; in practice these are distributed across 4 different chains, leading to a commercial product containing a range of chemical species.

Appearance: Yellow to amber oily liquid to cream
POE (20) sorbitan monooleate is a sorbitan fatty acid ester ethoxylate and is a well-known highly effective adjuvant.

Most are industrial products containing a mixture of related structures.

The composition often varies with batches.
Furthermore, POE (20) sorbitan monooleate detergents tend to alter, mostly by oxidation, and this aging process is increased by light and temperature.

Oxidation generates peroxides, carboxyls and free radicals that may reach up to 0.2%.
Even at far lower concentration, these oxidizing agents may be very critical in your application : such contaminants are often responsible for inactivation, denaturation, fragmentation of the desired biomolecule, especially during the extraction from cell lysates.

Sulfhydryls are readily oxidized by peroxides that induce receptors aggregation or transition of conformation state.
Contaminants may also interfere in biochemical analysis (i.e. for estrogen), or even protein with Coomassie.
