Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate is an aromatic diisocyanate. ,
Three isomers are common, varying by the positions of the isocyanate groups around the rings.
The 4,4′ isomer is most widely used, and is also known as 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate.
This isomer is also known as Pure MDI.

Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate is the generic name of a product used in industrial settings.
Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate,  is actually a mixture that contains 25-80% monomeric 4,4'-MDI as well as oligomers containing 3-6 rings and other minor isomers, such as the 2,2'-isomer.
The exact composition of Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate varies with the manufacturer.
Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate is used to make rigid and flexible foam, foundry resin sand binders, and heat insulating material.

Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate are essential building blocks in the production of polyurethanes, urethane-prepolymers, and polyisocyanurate polymers in many industries.
Because of their reactivity and versatility of combining with an wide array of curatives and chain extenders, Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanates are used in countless diverse applications.
End-uses for these quite versatile diisocyanates include foam products, cast elastomers, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), fibers, and CASE (coatings, adhesives, sealants & elastomers) products.
Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanates are the most-produced diisocyanate on a global basis.

Applications  of Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate

Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanates are available in multiple structural variants, from pure monomeric MDIs (MMDI) to multifunctional polymeric MDIs (PMDI).
The performance delivered by the variety of Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanates differs significantly across the spectrum of MDI grades.
Formulators mainly use monomeric MMDIs in the production of prepolymers for cast polyurethane applications such as wheels & rollers and mechanical goods; TPU elastomers; and spandex fibers. The core markets for Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate manufacturers are rigid foams for appliance insulation, packaging and construction applications; as well as semi-rigid and flexible foams used in furniture, cushioning, transportation, vibration insulation, shoe soles and synthetic leather; and polyisocyanurate and thermoset foams.

First Aid Measures of Polymeric diphenylmethane diisocyanate

Eye Contact :
In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes.
Use lukewarm water if possible.
Use fingers to ensure that eyelids are separated and that the eye is being irrigated.
Get medical attention.

Skin Contact :
If direct skin contact with isocyanates occurs, immediately remove contaminated clothing and shoes.
Wipe off the isocyanate product from the skin using dry towels or other similar absorbent fabric.
If readily available, apply a polyglycol-based cleanser (e.g. SKC, Inc. (SKC) D-TAM™ Skin Cleanser) or corn oil.
Wash with soap and warm water and pat dry.
If a polyglycol-based cleanser is not available, wash with soap and warm water for 15 minutes.
If available, use a wipe test pad to verify decontamination is complete (e.g. SKC SWYPE™).
Get medical attention if irritation develops.
Discard or wash contaminated clothing before reuse.

Inhalation :
Move to an area free from further exposure.
Extreme asthmatic reactions that may occur in sensitized persons can be life threatening.
Get medical attention immediately.
Administer oxygen or artificial respiration as needed.
Asthmatic symptoms may develop and may be immediate or delayed up to several hours.

Ingestion :
Do NOT induce vomiting.
Wash mouth out with water.
Do not give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.
Get medical attention.
