Polymeric MDI sinks in water.

Uses:
Polymeric MDI is an engineering polymer used in the synthesis of highly resiliant polyurethane foams with flame retardancy.
Environmental toxin on US EPA Toxic Release Inventory list (TRI) list.

General Description
Dark-brown liquid with a weak odor. Sinks in water.

Polymeric MDI is the source of pure Diphenylmethane-4,4'-Diisocyanate.
Polymeric MDI uses as a binder resin dor particle board and as a foundary core binder resin.

Polyurethane elastomers basen on polymethylene polyphenyl isocyanate are used in microcellular products, including shoes& Automobile bumpers.
Additional application include production of polyurethane adhesives & foundry resin sand binders used in casting of steel, iron & nonferrous metals.

General Manufacturing Information
Industry Processing Sectors
• All other chemical product and preparation manufacturing
• Construction
• Electrical equipment, appliance, and component manufacturing
• Furniture and related product manufacturing
• Miscellaneous manufacturing
• Transportation equipment manufacturing

Polymeric MDI, which is most commonly used, is a mixture of MDI and polymeric MDI and is a brownish liquid at room temperature and may have a slight odor.

This resin is used as a binder in particle board and foundry cores. It is used to make polyurethane elastomers for shoes and automobile bumpers.
The polymeric mixture (PMDI) is the main commercial form of diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI);
Composition varies by manufacturer;
Used (in aerosol form) to make rigid and flexible foam, foundry resin sand binders, and heat insulating material

This product is used to manufacture polyurethane adhesives, and can also be directly added to rubber adhesives to improve the adhesion between rubber and nylon or polyester threads.

Diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) is the generic name of a product used in industrial settings. Polymeric MDI (PMDI), the primary technical/commercial form of MDI, is actually a mixture that contains 25-80% monomeric 4,4'-MDI as well as oligomers containing 3-6 rings and other minor isomers, such as the 2,2'-isomer. The exact composition of PMDI varies with the manufacturer. PMDI is used to make rigid and flexible foam, foundry resin sand binders, and heat insulating material.

Usage Areas
• Rigid polyurethane foam systems,
• Polyurethane adhesives,
• CASE applications,
• Floor coatings,
• Aerosol polyurethane foams

Polymeric Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate (MDI) is used in the manufacture of various products, including rigid foam, semi-rigid foam and CASE. Polymeric MDI is classified into a variety of grades according to viscosity, among which users can choose the most suitable for their purposes.

APPLICATIONS
Insulations for refrigerators and container transport, Insulation panels for construction, LNG carriers, Pre-insulated pipes, Board foam, Wood imitation, Spray insulations, Auto Instrumental Panel, Auto headliner and adhesives

Product Description
NCO content (%): 31,5
Viscosity [mPa*s]: 210
Viscosity Temperature [°C]: 25
Polymeric MDI with average functionality and reactivity.
Standard isocyanate for rigid foam and for use as a binder in the wood-working industry.
In combination with monomeric MDI grades, it is also used for flexible foam.

What is a polymeric MDI?
Diphenylmethane diisocyanate (MDI) is the generic name of a product used in industrial settings.
Polymeric MDI (PMDI), the primary technical/commercial form of MDI, is actually a mixture that contains 25-80% monomeric 4,4′-MDI as well as oligomers containing 3-6 rings and other minor isomers, such as the 2,2′-isomer.

What is polymeric MDI used for?
Polymeric MDIs are generally used in manufacturing rigid and semi-rigid polyurethane foam for construction panels, spray-on insulation, refrigeration insulation, and automotive interior panels.

Why is there an MDI shortage?
The North American MDI market continues to be disrupted due to raw material shortages and prices are still firming.
Lack of supply availability, even though most plants are reported to be online, and issues sourcing raw materials, plus high freight costs and truck shortages, are adding upward pressure on MDI prices.

How  manufacture methylene diphenyl diisocyanate?
Methylene Diphenyl Diisocyanate is produced by a 4 steps reaction based on benzene as feedstock.
There are 3 isomers of MDI : 2,2-MDI, 2,4-MDI, and 4,4-MDI. The 4,4 isomer is known as pure or monomeric MDI (mMDI).
The Polymeric MDI so called Crude MDI contains monomeric MDI and products with higher MW (pMDI).

How is polymeric MDI made?
MDI Production Process In the MDI process, aniline is condensed with formaldehyde to produce methylenedianiline (MDA), and MDA is reacted with phosgene to form MDI.
The flexibility of the BASF process makes it possible to control and modify the properties of a broad range of MDI products.

Is polymeric MDI flammable?
MDI stands for methylene diphenyl diisocyanate; it is available in pure forms such as 4,4′-MDI, or as a mixture of isomers and different molecular weight oligomers in polymeric MDI or PMDI.
MDI and TDI do not catch fire or burn easily, but they may be involved in a fire which is spread by other materials.

Dark brown liquid with a slightly musty odor.
Uses: To make rigid and semi-rigid polyurethane foams.

Polymeric MDIs are generally used in manufacturing rigid and semi-rigid polyurethane foam for construction panels, spray-on insulation, refrigeration insulation, and automotive interior panels.

What is the difference between TDI and MDI?
The key difference between MDI and TDI is that MDI is a light yellow crystalline solid, whereas TDI is a clear, colourless to pale yellow colour liquid.
Moreover, MDI is mainly used for the production of rigid polyurethane foams, while TDI is mainly used for the production of flexible polyurethane foams.
