The global Polypropylene Glycol (PPG) market witnessed a demand of 1.64 million tonnes in 2020 and is anticipated to grow at a healthy CAGR of 5.25% through 2030.
Polypropylene Glycol is a polyether and a polymer of Propylene Glycol.

PPGs are synthesized via the addition of propylene oxide to 1,2 Propylene Glycol in the presence of an alkaline catalyst at a high temperature around 100-200°C and under pressures ranging 2000-6000 hPa.
Polypropylene glycol 3000 is a sticky and colorless liquid with no odor and low volatility.

PPG is soluble in a broad range of solvents such as water, chloroform, and acetone but with increasing molecular mass Polypropylene glycol 3000 viscosity increases, and solubility in water decreases rapidly.
Polypropylene exhibits versatile properties such as low density, chemical resistance, high moldability, and tensile strength, low moisture absorption, excellent lubricity, and cost-effectiveness.

Due to these properties, Polypropylene Glycol is employed in several applications such as polyurethanes, additives, surfactants, hydraulic fluids, wetting agents, dispersants in the leather industry, antifreeze agents, adhesives, humectants, in suppressing foaming in industrial processes as well as Polypropylene glycol 3000 is the key element in the making of Paintballs.
Apart from these applications, Polypropylene Glycol is also used to create artificial smoke or fog used in movies, theatrical productions, and fire-fighting training.
Depending upon their molecular weight these are segmented into different grades such as Grade-1000, Grade 2000, Grade-3000, Grade-4000, and Grade 6000.

Based upon their vast applications Polypropylene Glycol is used in various end-use in industries including Cosmetics and Personal Care, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceuticals, Building & Construction, Automotive, and Others (textile, paper, and pulp, electronics, consumer goods, chemicals, etc.).
As Polypropylene Glycol is produced from petrochemicals as a feedstock hence, there is volatility in Polypropylene glycol 3000 prices according to the prices of petrochemicals.

However, the major restraint for the PPG market is Polypropylene glycol 3000 association with health as well as environmental hazards.
Key manufacturers of Polypropylene are now focusing to produce biobased PPG that not only brings stability in the prices but also helps in reducing carbon footprint.

The sudden outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic impacted several industries due to the imposition of nationwide lockdowns and trade restrictions by the global economies.
There was a slum in the demand for Polypropylene Glycol in the first half of 2020, as Polypropylene glycol 3000 end-use industries such as Automotive and Construction sector were among the most hit sectors amid covid crisis.

Although there was a steady demand from Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Goods, and Personal Care industries for Polypropylene as these industries were functional with their full efficacy even during the pandemic.
Moreover, in the latter half of 2020, after the relaxations in lockdown, there was a speedy recovery in the Construction as well as Automobile sectors along with other end-use industries which consequently improved the demand for PPG in the global market.
Polypropylene glycol 3000 is anticipated that the demand for Polypropylene Glycol is likely to grow at a promising rate in the forecast period owing to Polypropylene glycol 3000 vast applications in various end-use industries.

Region-wise, Asia-Pacific holds the major demand share of the Polypropylene Glycol market and is projected to grow significantly over the forecast period owing to the promptly emerging end-use industries such as Pharmaceuticals, Food and Beverage, Automobile and Construction in the region and likely to boost the market for Polypropylene Glycol in the forthcoming years.
Moreover, urbanization and rise in per capita income along with changes in consumer preferences in emerging economies like China, India, Japan, South Korea are some other factors that are expected to fuel the market for PPG over the forecast period.

Safe Use and Handling of Polypropylene glycol 3000:
Polypropylene glycols are relatively easy to store and handle.
They can be stored in bulk in steel tanks, which should be padded with nitrogen or any other inert gas to prevent air from entering the tank.
If slight iron pickup and colour changes cannot be tolerated then the storage tanks should be constructed from stainless steel.

To ease the handling of polypropylene glycols somewhat, higher storage temperatures should be considered to keep the viscosity of the polyglycols within limits suitable for the pumping equipment available.
The maximum storage temperature should not exceed 40°C to avoid the risk of product degradation.

Pipelines may also require insulation and/or tracing to maintain suitable product temperatures.
Although PPGs have very low pour points, especially polyglycols P2000E, P-3000E and

P-4000E become very viscous at low temperatures.
Consequently Polypropylene glycol 3000 is recommend that they be stored in tanks which are well insulated and heated.
Externally located heating devices are preferable to internally sited ones.

With external heating the risk of accelerating product deterioration is greatly reduced.
Similarly drums should be stored under cover, or preferably inside a warehouse, to maintain the temperature of the polyglycol at a level which allows for easy discharge.
The shelf life of properly stored bulk and unopened drums is, at least, 24 months.

Storage of Polypropylene glycol 3000:
This product is is packed in clean, dry, sealed and leak-free barrels.
Storage to prevent sunshine, rain, away from fire.
Because of Polypropylene glycol 3000 hygroscopicity, do not contact with the air directly.

Avoid open fire, avoid heating in the air for a long time, especially polyether polyol infiltration of thermal insulation materials, clothing and other often spontaneous fire, we should pay attention to.
Polypropylene Glycol 3000 is not limited by the rules for the storage of flammable liquids, but should avoid entering groundwater or surface water because Polypropylene glycol 3000 is not easily biodegradable.

When the spillover occurs, Polypropylene glycol 3000 is covered with sawdust, yellow sand, cloth and other permeable materials, then shoveled to the waste recycling place and removed from the workplace, and then sewage treatment is carried out.
If Polypropylene Glycol 3000 is on fire, use foam, dry powder, dry ice, water and so on to put out the fire.
