Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 is a non-ionic high molecular polymer.
PVP is classified according to its average molecular weight.

PVP is customarily used to indicate the K value.
Different K values represent different PVP average molecular weight ranges.
The K value is actually a characteristic value related to the relative viscosity of the PVP aqueous solution, and the viscosity is a physical value related to the molecular weight of the high molecular polymer.
Therefore, the K value can be used to characterize the average molecular weight of PVP.
Generally, the K value is more Large, the greater the viscosity.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 polymer polymer is a kind of non-ionic polymer compound.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 is a more extensively studied fine chemical product among N-vinylamide polymers.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30, also commonly called polyvidone or povidone, is a water-soluble polymer made from the monomer N-vinylpyrrolidone.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 exists as white or milk white powder or colorless or slight yellow transparent liquid.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 can dissolve in water and a variety of organic solvents.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 has good hygroscopicity, film-forming capability, complexing ability and physiological compatibility.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 is a kind of non-ionic polymer compound.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 is a more extensively studied fine chemical product among N-vinylamide polymers.
Among them, the K value is actually a characteristic related to the relative viscosity of the PVP aqueous solution value.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 has developed into three categories of non-ionic, cationic and anionic, three specifications of industrial grade, pharmaceutical grade, and food grade, and a series of homopolymers, copolymers and crosslinked polymers with relative molecular weights ranging from several thousand to over one million.

Like all homopolymer series products, because Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 polymer contains hydrophilic and lipophilic groups in its molecular structure, Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 can interact with many solvents, making it soluble in water, and soluble in a variety of alcohols and carboxylic acids.
The solubility is only limited by Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30's own viscosity.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 is a hygroscopic, amorphous polymer supplied as a white, free-flowing powder or a clear aqueous solution.
Available in several molecular weight grades, PVP are characterized by K-value, and used in a great variety of applications.

What the different is we use K value to distinguish different PVP.
The K value of PVP is actually the characteristic value associated with the relative viscosity of the PVP aqueous solution, and the viscosity is the physical quantity associated with the molecular weight of the polymer.
Therefore, the average molecular weight of the PVP can be characterized by the K value.
Usually the greater the K value, the greater the viscosity, the stronger the adhesion.

Molecular weight of polymer is generally expressed as weight average(Mw), number average and viscosity average.
The most commonly used expression is weight average molecular weight, which is measured by light scattering method.
Mw Values of PVP-K series products are shown as following:
PVP-K12   2,000-------------------3,000
PVP-K17   7,000--------------1,1000
PVP-K25   28,000-----------------34,000
PVP-K30   44,000-----------------54,000
PVP-K60   320,000---------------380,000
PVP-K90   1,000,000-----------1,500,000
PVP-K120  1,600,000-----------2,000,000

Besides, different K value of PVP have different characteristics and applications.
Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 in solid drugs can be used not only as a binder, solubilizer, disintegrating agent, extend agent, but also as a film coat and capsules and controlled release film.

Polyvinylpyrrolidone K 30 made with the film coat and capsule shell in the dry environment is not easy to break, the appropriate amount of povidone and other insoluble polymer together with different thickness and diameter of the permeability of the membrane can adjust the rate of the drug through the membrane, and thus can achieve the effect of controlled release.
