POTASSIUM MONOPERSULFATE

CAS:    37222-66-5
MF:    H3KO13S3(-4)
MW:    346.29
EINECS:    609-357-2

Potassium monopersulfate is widely used as an oxidizing agent.
Potassium monopersulfate is the potassium salt of peroxymonosulfuric acid.
Usually Potassium monopersulfate refers to the triple salt known as oxone.
The standard electrode potential for potassium peroxymonosulfate is +1.81 V with a half reaction generating the hydrogen sulfate (pH = 0):

HSO5− + 2 H+ + 2 e− → HSO4− + H2O

Potassium monopersulfate is a relatively obscure salt, but its derivative called oxone is of commercial value.
Oxone refers to the triple salt 2KHSO5·KHSO4·K2SO4.
Oxone has a longer shelflife than does Potassium monopersulfate.
A white, water-soluble solid, oxone loses <1% of Potassium monopersulfate's oxidizing power per month.
Oxone is produced from peroxysulfuric acid, which is generated in situ by combining oleum and hydrogen peroxide.
Careful neutralization of this solution with potassium hydroxide allows the crystallization of the triple salt.
Oxone is used widely for cleaning.
Potassium monopersulfate whitens dentures, disinfects swimming pools, and cleans chips for the manufacture of microelectronics.
Potassium monopersulfate triple salt is a reagent for oxidative umpolung of alkali metal bromides, controlled epoxidation reactons, and desulfurization reactions for fluorescent chemosignaling.
Potassium monopersulfate is used as an oxidizing agent and as a terminal oxidant for bromolactonization of alkenoic acids.
Potassium monopersulfate triple salt is a chemical that has high stability and can be used as an oxidation catalyst in the sample preparation of organic compounds.
Potassium monopersulfate is also used for laser ablation, which is a technique used to analyze the chemical composition of substances.
Potassium monopersulfate triple salt is also used as an additive in wastewater treatment, as it increases water permeability and cell lysis.
This chemical has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties when combined with dimethyl fumarate.

Uses
Manufacture of dry laundry bleaches, detergent-bleach washing compound, scouring powders, plastic dishware cleaners, and metal cleaners; hair-wave neutralizers, pharmaceuticals; general oxidizing reactions.
Potassium monopersulfate is used for bleaching polyamide and cellulose fibers.
However, Potassium monopersulfate is ordinarily used only to clean wool and to reduce its shrinkage.
Potassium monopersulfate is an extremely potent oxidizer.
Potassium monopersulfate also may act as a bactericidal agent as treatment of bacterial spores with this agent leads to damage to the sporeтАЩs inner membrane.
Plays a role in oxidative halogenation of various carbonyl and ketone compounds.
Potassium monopersulfate is a stable, convenient and widely used acidic oxidant.
Potassium monopersulfate can be used to introduce hydroxyl groups.
Potassium monopersulfate's application fields include oral cleaning, disinfection of swimming pools and hot spring water, circuit board etchants, pulp bleaching, wool fabric shrinkage treatment, and valuable Metal refining, etc.
