A member of the class of 3-(3,4-substituted-phenyl)-1,1-dimethylureas that is urea in which both of the hydrogens attached to one nitrogen are substituted by methyl groups, and one of the hydrogens attached to the other nitrogen is substituted by a 3,4-dichlorophenyl group.

USES and APPLICATIONS of PREVENTOL A 6:
-Preventol A 6 is used Architectural coatings, Paints & Coatings Dry-Film Protection, Wood industry, and Wood preservatives
-Preventol A 6 is used algicidal active ingredient component in marine antifouling coatings.
-Preventol A 6 is a broad-spectrum algicide which is highly effective against both seawater and freshwater algae.
-For antifouling coatings Preventol A 6 is normally used in combination with copper compounds such as copper oxide and copper rhodanide to broaden the spectrum of activity against sessile sea animals like for example barnacles and tubeworms.
When incorporating and using Preventol A 6, care should be taken that Preventol A 6 is distributed homogeneously in the coating to ensure a reliable and uniform action.
-The concentration in marine antifouling coatings is usually between 2 and 8 %, calculated on the total formulation.
-Preventol A 6 is used for the formulation of algaecidal coatings and plasters for exterior applications and as an algaecidal active ingredient component in marine antifouling coatings.
-Preventol A 6 offers efficiency against seawater algae and those found in the air and on masonry paints.
-Preventol A 6 is used for the formulation of algicidal coatings and plasters for exterior applications.
-Preventol A 6 is used Algicidal active for the production of biocidal products.
-Preventol A 6 is used Modifier in epoxy resins.
-Preventol A 6 is used biocides safely.
-Preventol A 6 is used as a herbicide.
-Preventol A 6 is used at 10-30 kg/ha for total controlling of weeds and mosses on non-crop areas. Selective control of germinating grass and broad-leaved weeds in many crops, including asparagus, tree fruit, bush fruit, citrus fruit, vines, olives, pineapples, bananas, sugar cane, cotton, peppermint, alfalfa, forage legumes, cereals, maize, sorghum, and perennial grass-seed crops, at 0.6-4.8 kg/ha.
Phytotoxic residues in soil disappear within 1 season at these lower rates.
-Preventol A 6 applicable crops:
asparagus, tree fruit, bush fruit, citrus fruit, vines, olives, pineapples, bananas, sugarcane, cotton, peppermint, alfalfa, forage legumes, cereals, maize, sorghum, and perennial grass-seed crops
-Preventol A 6 (1,1-dimethyl, 3-(3’,4’-dichlorophenyl) urea) is a broad-spectrum residual herbicide and algaecide used in agriculture for pre-emergent and post-emergent control of broadleaved and grass weeds.
-Preventol A 6 is also used to control weeds and algae in and around water bodies and is a component of marine antifouling paints.
-Preventol A 6 is a herbicide and algaecide used in a variety of cropping and non-cropping situations
-Prior to some Preventol A 6 uses being suspended in late 2011 and the finalisation of the review in November 2012, diuron was used to:
*control weeds in agriculture—sugarcane, cotton, broadacre crops (oats, wheat, and barley) and some horticultural crops, including apples, pears, citrus, pineapples and bananas
*control weeds in irrigation channels, drainage ditches, around buildings, railway lines, sheds and driveways
*protect boats from marine algal growth (as a component of antifouling paints)
*prevent algal growth in home aquariums and ponds.
-The mode of action of Preventol A 6 is that it halts photosynthesis on treated plants, hindering the ability of the weed to turn light energy into chemical energy.
This is a crucial procedure needed for plant development and survival.
-Preventol A 6 is versatile in that it can be used as both a pre-emergent and post-emergent form of control on weeds and crops.
-Preventol A 6 has been best used in agricultural settings to control invasive weeds around forage crops, field crops, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and ornamental crops.
-In non agricultural settings, Preventol A 6 can be used on industrial sites, rights-of-way, around farm buildings, and on irrigation and drainage ditches.
-Preventol A 6 only works best when the active ingredient is applied to young weeds in their very early stage as a post-emergent or pre-emergently before the seeds have sprouted.
Preventol A 6 will not be effective against mature weeds.
-Preventol A 6 is an effective herbicide active ingredient that is used to treat invasive vegetation on both agricultural and non-agricultural sites.
-Preventol A 6 is also useful in removing mildew as well as a reliable killer of algae on commercial water bodies.
-Preventol A 6 is used as a herbicide (weed killer) in agriculture.

SYNTHESIS OF PREVENTOL A 6:
As described in the du Pont patent, the starting material is a substituted aryl amine, an aniline, which is treated with phosgene to form its isocyanate derivative.
This is subsequently reacted with dimethylamine to give the final product.
Aryl-NH2 + COCl2 → Aryl-NCO
Aryl-NCO + NH(CH3)2 → Aryl-NHCON(CH3)2

MECHANISM OF ACTION PREVENTOL A 6:
Preventol A 6 is a very specific and sensitive inhibitor of photosynthesis.
Preventol A 6 blocks the QB plastoquinone binding site of photosystem II, disallowing the electron flow from photosystem II to plastoquinone.
This interrupts the photosynthetic electron transport chain in photosynthesis and thus reduces the ability of the plant to turn light energy into chemical energy (ATP and reductant potential).
Preventol A 6 only blocks electron flow from photosystem II, Preventol A 6 has no effect on photosystem I or other reactions in photosynthesis, such as light absorption or carbon fixation in the Calvin cycle.

However, because Preventol A 6 blocks electrons produced from water oxidation in PS II from entering the plastoquinone pool, "linear" photosynthesis is effectively shut down, as there are no available electrons to exit the photosynthetic electron flow cycle for reduction of NADP+ to NADPH.
In fact, it was found that DCMU not only does not inhibit the cyclic photosynthetic pathway, but, under certain circumstances, actually stimulates it.
Because of these effects, Preventol A 6 is often used to study energy flow in photosynthesis.

PREVENTOL:
The PREVENTOL product line is a group of biocidal preparations under which we find both active substances and ready-made formulations that protect the final products against biological attack by bacteria, fungi or algae, thereby extending their lifespan and preserving their functionality.
In the field of paint and building materials production, PREVENTOL products are widely used in the following applications.
Protection or preservation of the finished product in packaging ( In Can ) and dry film protection ( Dry Film Protection ) of materials applied to mineral surfaces or wood.
Last but not least, we find the application of biocidal products also in the hygiene and disinfection of production ( Plant Hygiene ) and in the industrial or long-term protection of wood (Wood Protection ).
PREVENTOL BIT, BIT IT, D, DP, DBC, P is a combination of active substances BIT, CMIT/MIT, Bronopol, DBDCB, or others.
