Propylene glycol monoethyl ether is a colourless liquid with a slight ether‐like odour (molar mass 104.20 g/mol, boiling point 132 °C at 1013 hPa, melting point −100 °C, vapour pressure 10 hPa at 20 °C). It is miscible with water (36.6 g in 100 mL) and reacts very vigorously with strong oxidising agents. Propylene glycol monoethyl ether is used as a solvent in printing inks and synthetic resins as well as for the manufacture of paints.

Propylene glycol methyl ether (PGME or 1-methoxy-2-propanol) is an organic solvent with a wide variety of industrial and commercial uses.[3] Similar to other glycol ethers, it is used as a carrier/solvent in printing/writing inks and paints/coatings. It also finds use as an industrial and commercial paint stripper. It is used as an antifreeze in diesel engines.

It is applicable to benzene propylene emulsion, propylene alkene acid emulsion and its emulsion paint, which are characterized by reducing the coating temperature, speeding its cohesion and keeping the coating in a good condition. Also can it be used as solvent for electrophoresis paints and some other high grade ones. Besides the application mentioned above, it can also be used as anti-ice liquid for fuel, detergent, extractor, soft printing ink, silk printing ink, and ore-dressing agent for nonferrous metals as well as material for organic synthesis etc.

1-Ethoxy-2-propanol is used as a solvent for a wide variety of resins such as epoxies, acrylic, alkyds, polyesters, nitrocellulose, and polyurethanes. It is also used in the surface coating and printing industries, thereby it regulate the flow, levelling, and coalescence of both surface coatings. It acts as an intermediate in the production of agro-chemicals and de-icing, and anti-icing formulations. It finds application as to make cleaning products, as grease and paint remover.

How is it produced?
Ethoxy Propanol is a member of the Propylene Glycol Ether family.  These Propylene glycol ethers are formed from the base catalysed reaction of propylene oxide with alcohols.
How is it stored and distributed?
Ethoxy Propanol has a specific gravity of 0.895 and a flash point of 40.5oC (Closed cup).  This low flash point means Ethoxy Propanol is regarded as Flammable and is classified as Dangerous goods class 3 and in pack group III.
It is transported by marine, rail, and road, primarily in bulk, but can also be transported as a packed product.  When being transported it should be in carbon steel or stainless steel vessels which should be tightly closed and properly vented.  The vessels should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area that is away from all ignition sources.

Ethoxy Propanol is used in a range of industrial, professional, and consumer applications as it provides good solvency  due to its’ bi-functional nature.  It is miscible with both polar and non-polar substances and is an effective solvent for a wide variety of resins, which include epoxies, acrylic, alkyds, polyesters, nitrocellulose, and polyurethanes.  It also provides low toxicity and this is another property which is valued by the users.
