PROVICHEM 2203

Provichem 2203 include aqueous vinylic/acrylic emulsions: non-migratory stabilizers for binders in coatings and adhesives with superior stability and improved scrub and water resistance.
Other applications of Provichem 2203 is nickel plating (brightener and levelling agent), oil field applications and water treatment.
Provichem 2203 is also used as intermediate for organic synthesis, surfactant, pharmaceutical industry.

CAS:    3039-83-6
MF:    C2H3O3S.Na
MW:    130.1
EINECS:    221-242-5

Provichem 2203 is also used in the production of ion-exchange and desalting membranes, scale inhibitors, and drilling fluids.
Additionally, Provichem 2203 is an intermediate for photo-chemicals and bio-buffers.
Provichem 2203 is a useful reagent (monomer) for the formation of poly(anionic) polymers and copolymers.
Provichem 2203 is employed as a basic brightener and leveling agent in nickel baths.

Provichem 2203 (also: sodium isethionate) is the sodium salt of 2-hydroxyethane sulfonic acid (isethionic acid), Provichem 2203 is used as a hydrophilic head group in washing-active surfactants, known as isethionates (acyloxyethanesulfonates) due to its strong polarity and resistance to multivalent ions.
Provichem 2203 is being studied as a high production volume chemical in the "High Production Volume (HPV) Chemical Challenge Program" of the US Environmental Protection Ministry EPA.

Provichem 2203 is a very effective stabiliser for vinyl acetate and acrylic dispersions, where it is introduced during the emulsion polymerisation.
Provichem 2203 behaves like an anionic monomer and becomes an integral part of the polymer particles.
The incorporated sulfonate groups stabilise the polymer dispersion by an electrostatic mechanism.
Unlike surfactant-type stabilisers, Provichem 2203 will not desorb from the polymer particles.
Provichem 2203 retains its stabilizing effect even under more severe conditions, such as high shear and freezing conditions.
Provichem 2203 provides superior mechanical stability during formulation (especially high solid latex), storage (for example in winter time), transport and final use of the water-based coatings and adhesives.
