PROXEL GXL

CAS Number: 2634-33-5

PROXEL GXL is a 20% aqueous dipropylene glycol solution of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one.
PROXEL GXL is Used for the preservation of industrial water-based products against spoilage from bacteria, yeasts and fungi.

PROXEL GXL has a non-specific mode of action which means that bacterial resistance is very unlikely to occur.
PROXEL GXL boils without flashing and is stable in the presence of amines.

The concentration of PROXEL GXL required to adequately preserve your product depends on several factors.
These include the susceptibility of the system to microbiological degradation, the extent to which micro-organisms can gain access, the species involved, pH, temperature, and length of time for which protection is required.

Suitable for use in synthetic polymer emulsions, emulsion paints, printing inks, paper coating compositions.
PROXEL GXL Preservative is effective in a wide range of industrial aqueous-based products such as emulsion paints, water-based adhesives, household products, printing inks, paper coating compositions, metal working fluids, agricultural pesticide dispersions.

PROXEL GXL is a broad-spectrum biocide for the preservation of water-based products against spoilage from bacteria, yeasts and fungi.
PROXEL GXL is a 20% aqueous dipropylene glycol solution of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one.
PROXEL GXL is effective in aqueous-based household products.

The PROXEL GXL Material Safety Data Sheet is provided with every sample and product shipment and is also supplied upon request.
PROXEL GXL should be read and understood by all supervisory personnel and employees before using this product.

PROXEL GXL is an anti-bacterial, 19.3% active content, Formaldehyde free glycol/alcohol solution suitable for all types of formulations.
PROXEL GXL Preservative, an aqueous solution of 1, 2- benzisothiazolin3-one, is an efficient microbiostat preservative for aqueous compositions such as oil in water emulsions.
PROXEL GXL is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency and has been granted EPA Registration No. 1258-1255.

Many aqueous dispersions and emulsions can be seriously impaired during storage and use due to the growth in them of bacteria and fungi.

PROXEL GXL is an effective preservative against growth of the above microbial agents in the aqueous systems listed and exhibits:
Effective control of a wide range of organisms at economic concentrations.
Long-term storage stability.
Ease of use due to PROXEL GXL liquid form and good compatibility in most aqueous composition.

Uses of PROXEL GXL:

Oil-in-Water Emulsions:
“Spin finish” solutions for use in the textile industry.
Cutting/rolling oils.
Soluble oils (metal and engineering industries).

Emulsion Paint and Coatings:
Including varnishes, lacquers and stains: For preservation in the can.

Adhesives:
Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)and derivatives, animal glues, adhesives based on gelatins and latex.

Paper Coating Compositions:
Rosin dispersions.
Starch and casein based products.

Pesticide Formulations:
For product preservation For use – dilution

Preservation of Fresh Animal Hides and Skins:
To preserve the integrity of fresh animal hides and skins prior to or during processing, use 13 fluid ounces to 2.5 gallons (1.0-24 lbs) of PROXEL GXL Preservative per 1000 pounds of hides or skins.
Add the appropriate quantity of PROXELGXL Preservative to the brine solution during the curing operation or treat hides or skins with an appropriately diluted aqueous solution during other portions of the processing operation.
The specific use rate and contact time needed to control microbial attack will depend upon the degree of decomposition of the hides or skins prior to treatment.

Leather Processing Solutions:
Use PROXEL GXL Preservative at levels of 0.025-0.2% for the preservation of leather processing solutions.

General Recommendations of PROXEL GXL:
The concentration required to give protection depends on several factors.
These include the susceptibility of the system to microbiological degradation, the extent to which microorganisms can gain access, the species involved, pH, temperature, and length of time for which protection is required.

For protection against bacterial attack, a concentration within the range 0.02-0.35% PROXEL GXL Preservative is almost invariably sufficient.
The control of mold growth, particularly on paste products of high solids content, may occasionally demand dosages above 0.25%.
In dilute fluid systems, spoilage is usually controlled with dosages not greater than 0.09%.

Amount to Use of PROXEL GXL:
PROXEL GXL should be added to the system as early in the process as possible.
The concentration of PROXEL GXL required to adequately preserve your product depends on several factors.

These include the susceptibility of the system to microbiological degradation, the extent to which micro-organisms can gain access, the species involved, pH, temperature, and length of time for which protection is required.

A range of concentrations and applications is recommended in stated below.
However, PROXEL GXL is recommended that a testing programme be undertaken to determine the most costeffective dose for your application.

Testing should take into account chemical compatibility/stability, plant hygiene conditions, susceptibility of the product to contamination, and the typical organisms involved.
