DEFINITION:

Pvp/va polymers are low viscosity wet binders with a good balance between adhesive strength and ease of handling.
Pvp/va polymer is highly adhesive at low viscosity, thus offering the optimal balance between adhesive strength and ease of handling at 4-7% for VIVAPHARM® PVP K25 or 2-5% for VIVAPHARM® PVP K30.
Pvp/va polymers can be added to the formulation in even lower percentages, such as 1-3%, due to its higher viscosity.
Pvp/va polymer grades have excellent solubility in water and a range of organic solvents and are supplied as a free-flowing powder with spherical particle morphology.
Pvp/va polymer ensures rapid dispersibility and ultimate flexibility in the solvent of choice.

Pvp/va polymer is a 6:4 linear random copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone and vinyl acetate.
The vinyl acetate component of Pvp/va polymer reduces the hydrophilicity and glass transition temperature (Tg) compared to povidone homopolymers of similar molecular weight.
As a result, Pvp/va polymer is the ultimate tablet binder that extends its excellent adhesive property in wet granulation, as well as in dry granulation and direct compression.
Due to Pvp/va polymers spherical, hollow particle morphology and high plasticity, Pvp/va polymer performs exceptionally well as a binder for direct compression.
In addition, a lower Tg makes Pvp/va polymer an ideal polymer matrix for solid dispersions/solutions via hot melt extrusion, which enhances the dissolution of poorly soluble drug actives.
Pvp/va polymer is a water-soluble polymer made from the monomer N-vinylpyrrolidone.
Pvp/va polymer is available in a range of molecular weights and related viscosities, and can be selected according to the desired application properties.

BENEITS:

-Suitability for use in direct compression, dry granulation, wet granulation, hot melt extrusion, and film coating.

-Good flowability

-Large surface area due to hollow particle morphology – enhances particle bonding and good compressibility

-Ideal glass transition temperature (Tg) for hot melt extrusion
