RHEOVIS PU 1256

Non-ionic mid-shear solvent-free rheology additive for aqueous coatings Rheovis PU 1256 is an associative polyurethane thickener that gives aqueous systems a pseudoplastic behavior.
The properties of the product are independent of the pH.

Rheovis PU 1256 used in aqueous paint formulations allows to achieve these advantages:
- improved flow
- improved gloss
- increased hiding power
- reduced splattering when paint is applied by roller
- increased resistance to washing and scrubbing
- long open time

Rheovis PU 1256 is film-forming, has a good pigment-binding capacity and is outstandingly resistant to UV radiation.

Chemical nature
solution of a polyurethane in water/liquefier

Properties
Physical form
Clear to slightly yellowish turbid liquid

Shelf Life
When stored under the usual appropriate storage conditions, the product can be stored for 1 year.

Typical Properties
density at 20 °C (68 °F) ~ 1.03 g/cm3
solids ~ 35%
Brookfield viscosity at 23 °C (73 °F) ~ 23,000 mPa . s

Uses:
Rheovis PU 1256 is an associative polyurethane thickener designed to modify the rheology in aqueous polymer emulsions.
Rheovis PU 1256 is more effective in anionic emulsion types, pure acrylics and styrene-acrylic systems than in protective colloid emulsions such as VeoVa.
Rheovis PU 1256 is recommended for use in house paints, synthetic plasters, emulsion paints, adhesives, fillers and anti-corrosive paints.
Rheovis PU 1256 can be formulated with other thickeners such as cellulose derivatives and acrylate thickener

Recommended Concentrations
The recommended dosage of Rheovis  PU 1256 is 1 – 3% on total formulation, depending on pigmentation, dispersion type, amount of binder and co-solvents used.
Rheovis  PU 1256 may be added at any stage of paint manufacture.
However, it is recommended to incorporate it while stirring – without any dilution – directly to the pigment paste before the grinding stage.
Rheovis PU 1256 can also be added at the final stage of the paint manufacture.
Rheovis PU 1256 should then be prediluted 1:1 – 1:5 in propylene glycol or butyl glycol to achieve perfect incorporation into the system.
