Rosa Extract is a hybrid species, possibly descended from Gallic Rosa Extract (Rosa gallica) and Phoenician Rose (Rosa phoenicia), and cultivated for its aromatic essential oil since the 7th Century.
These deciduous shrubs grow to around 2 meters tall, producing thorny stems bearing flowers that range from pink to pale red.
The highly aromatic flowers have a deep fresh rosy fragrance and are cultivated in Syria, Turkey, France, Bulgaria and India for use in perfumery.
Harvested flowers undergo a process of solvent extraction or steam distillation to produce Rosa Extract, which is valued in the creation of floral fragrances.

Rosa Extract and its derivatives have been used in traditional Iranian medicines for treating ailments, and it is reported to have antibacterial, antiviral and antioxidant properties.
The essential oil yield is low (approx. 0.4 ml oil per kg of raw material), making it an expensive product to produce.
As with all essential oils, chemical composition varies with geography, soil composition and different ecological and environmental conditions.

Products labeled as “hypoallergenic” do not assure that the product is truly free of fragrance.

Since fragrances are complex mixtures of many ingredients, an individual may tolerate one fragrance but not another.

If no dermatitis develops, the product may likely be used safely.

Particularly if you have oral or lip allergies as discussed with your health care provider, you should avoid foods prepared with Bulgarian Rosa Extract .

The absolute of rose is obtained by extracting aromatic compounds from roses using solvents.
Hexane is widely used since aromatic compounds, wax and rose pigments have a great affinity with it.
The solvent is eliminated by distillation and/or evaporation under vacuum to produce an extract with a gelatinous consistency, an orange-red color and a typical odor of roses named the concrete.
A second extraction with alcohol is generally performed on the concrete, to isolate the aromatic compounds of the concrete from the other components, and finally the solvent is filtered and evaporated to obtain the absolute.
