INTRODUCTION & OVERVIEW
SETAMINE US-138 is a highly methylated melamine-formaldehyde resin, designed as a crosslinking agent for hydroxy-functional polymers (e.g., alkyds, polyesters, acrylics).
It reacts with the polymer's OH groups during the curing (stoving) process, forming a dense, three-dimensional network.
This results in coatings with exceptional hardness, chemical resistance, durability, and gloss.
KEY PROPERTIES & SPECIFICATIONS
Solids Content: ~98%
Solvent: Isobutanol
Viscosity: Medium to high (specific cP range depends on batch/temp)
Compatibility: Excellent with a wide range of solvent-borne polymers.
Reactivity: Requires acidic catalysts (e.g., p-TSA) for low-temperature cure; cures at elevated temperatures (typically 120°C - 150°C).
FUNCTIONS & APPLICATIONS
Primary Function: Provides crosslinking for thermoset industrial coatings.
Key Benefits:
Excellent Finish Properties: High gloss, mar resistance, and hardness.
Superior Durability: Outstanding resistance to chemicals, solvents, and stains.
Good Flexibility: Contributes to the film's flexibility and adhesion.
Storage Stability: Offers good pot life and compatibility in formulations.
Typical Applications:
Automotive OEM and refinish coatings.
Coil coatings for pre-painted metal.
General industrial metal finishes (appliances, furniture).
High-performance protective coatings.
HANDLING & SAFETY (MSDS SUMMARY)
Hazards: Flammable liquid. May cause skin and eye irritation. Contains formaldehyde (low free formaldehyde).
Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated place away from heat and ignition sources. Keep container tightly sealed.
Handling: Use with local exhaust ventilation. Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing.
First Aid: For eye contact, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present. Seek medical attention. For skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
