Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate has been used in a study to assess the mechanism of Zn2+ ions electroreduction. 
Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate has also been used in a study to investigate the retention mechanism of guanidine compounds on a porous graphitic carbon.

Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate was used as anionic monomer to investigate the effect of different cationic or anionic moieties in acrylonitrile-based copolymers on the interaction with fibroblasts. 
Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate was used to reduce the homopolymerization during graft copolymerization of methyl methacrylate with water-emulsified solution onto preirradiated jute fiber.

Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate known in the art consists, in general, of preparing a complex of SO3 with solvents like dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, tetra alkyl urea or dioxane in an inert solvent like ethylene dichloride or methylene chloride or n-methyl pyrrolidone etc., reacting this complex with isobutylene followed by neutralization with aqueous sodium hydroxide etc. 

Another method of manufacturing 2-Methyl-2-propene-1-sulfonic acid, sodium salt known in the art is based on reaction of sodium sulfite with allyl chloride or methallyl chloride.

USES:

-Sodium Methallyl Sulfonate can be used in Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer(PC) as the chain transfer agent.

-Keep the PC being off odour ,meanwhile indraughting sulfonic acid group with high dispersion and dispersion retention ability. 

-Good effect for plasticizer of cement admixture.

-As a monomer of corrosion and scale inhibitors, this product can be used in water treatment chemicals. 

-Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can polymerize with acrylic acid, acrylamide, maleic anhydride, sodium hypophosphite and has good scale inhibition effects for calcium phosphate, zinc salts, carbonate calcium and calcium sulfate.  

-As an oil field chemical, Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can polymerize with acrylamide, acrylic acid, sodium humate, acrylamido propyl trimethyl ammonium chloride, acrylamido-ethyl-2-methyl ammonium chloride, diethyl diallyl ammonium chloride, allyl trimethyl ammonium chloride to be dispersants, fluid loss agent and have remarkable effect in anti-high temperature and salt.                     

-As the third monomer of acrylic fiber, this product can improve the dyeing properties, the heat resistance and flexibility of fibers, so they can absorb color fast and have strong fastness and bright color. 

-As a paint additive, Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can be used to produce thermosetting acrylic resin and coating dispersant to increase thewater solubility.

-As a monomer of flocculant, Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can polymerize with acrylamide. 

-Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can polymerize with methyl acrylic acid, itaconic acid to be a dispersant.            

-Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can be used to make CPPL and high water-absorbing resin in electronics and materials processing.                                                                   

-Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can polymerize with sodium acrylate, styrene-acrylic emulsion, polyvinyl alcohol to improve fertilizer about red soil and strengthen absorb ammonium ion, nitrateion.                   

-Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can be used for the third oil displacement agent.                                  

-As one dry strength agent of papermaking additives, Sodium 2-propene-1-sulfonate can improve the quality of the paper.
