CAS no.: 536-45-8
Mol. formula: C8H8O3.Na

SODIUM ANISATE is derived from fennel, this is the sodium salt of p-anisic acid.
Sodium Anisate is classified as antimicrobial and flavouring.
Sodium Anisate acts as an anti-fungal agent, and when paired with sodium levulinate the two ingredients make for a comprehensive preservative for cosmetics.
This ingredient is approved for use in organic cosmetics.
Sodium anisate (dermosoft® anisate) is an easy to use water soluble salt of an organic acid with an excellent fungicidal activity.
Sodium Anisate can be added to the cold or hot water phase at any step of the process.
The combination with antimicrobial surface active substances or organic acids is recommended to improve the performance of the product even at higher pH.

Presentation : Sodium Anisate is a liquid that is easily soluble in alcohol in water but hot

Cosmetic use : Sodium Anisate is used as a broad-spectrum preservative, combined with levulinate, for its activity of counteracting the growth of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.
Sodium Anisate is used to give stability and shelf life to emulsions, tensiolites as shampoos and shower baths and serums for the face .

anisate sodium  is obtained starting star anise ( Illicium verum ) for steam distillation.
The anethole is separated from the essential oil which, after oxidation and neutralization with soda, is transformed into sodium anisate.

Sodium Anisate occurs as a liquid that is easily soluble in alcohol.

Sodium Anisate is used as a broad-spectrum preservative , combined with levulinate, for its activity in contrasting the growth of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.
