METHODS of MANUFACTURE of SODIUM META NITRO BENZENE SULPHONATE:
Sodium Meta Nitro Benzene Sulphonate is produced via the sulfonation of nitrobenzene, followed by the addition of common salts to the reaction mixture; rn-mdinitro diphenyl sulfone is a by-product of this process.

Specifically, nitrobenzene is added to an oleum (defined as a heavy, oily, strongly corrosive solution of sulfur trioxide in anhydrous sulfuric acid) solution that contains 25% sulfur trioxide.

The solution is then heated (followed by cooling), and nitrobenzenesulfonate goes into solution, leaving a small amount of undissolved sulfone (rn-rn-dinitro diphenyl sulfone); the undissolved sulfone is filtered out.

Nitrobenzenesulfonic acid is easily salted out from the solution because its sodium salt is practically insoluble in a saturated salt solution.

Technically, Sodium Meta Nitro Benzene Sulphonate may be used without further purification.
However, if necessary, Sodium Meta Nitro Benzene Sulphonate may be purified by recrystallization from water.
