What Is Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate?
In cosmetics and personal care products, Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate and Sodium Naphthalenesulfonate are used in the formulation of makeup preparations including eyeshadow, mascara, blushers, foundations and lipstick.

Why is Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate used in cosmetics and personal care products?
Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate and Sodium Naphthalenesulfonate enhance the water solubility of other cosmetic ingredients and help to distribute or to suspend an insoluble solid in a liquid.
Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate also helps to keep the final product from separating into its oil and water components.

Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is a light yellow to yellowish-brown powder, which is an anionic surfactant.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is widely used for the preparation of free-flowing and pumpable concrete mixture in the construction industry.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate can be used as raw material for compound accelerators, anti-freezing agents, and retarders, in different construction industries.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate's high purity feature makes cement particles with high low foaming, high range water reducing and strengthening.
In addition, Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate also improves cement mobility and workability.

Many important characteristics of concrete are influenced by the ratio of water to cementitious materials used in the mixture.
By reducing the amount of water, the cement paste will have a higher density, which results in higher paste quality.
An increase in paste quality will yield higher compressive and flexural strength, lower permeability, increase resistance to weathering, improve the bond of concrete and reinforcement, reduce the volume change from drying and wetting, and reduce shrinkage cracking tendencies.

Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is easily soluble in ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerol, and water, slightly soluble in alcohols, but it is insoluble in organic solvents.
Furthermore, Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is highly utilized in various industries such as agriculture, plastics & rubber, paper, construction, textile, oil, and others.

Superplasticizers
Superplasticizer, also known as high range water reducers, are chemical admixtures used where well-dispersed particle suspension is required.
These polymers are used as dispersants to avoid particle segregation (gravel, coarse and fine sands), and to improve the flow characteristics (rheology) of suspensions such as in concrete applications.
Their addition to concrete or mortar allows the reduction of the water to cement ratio, not affecting the workability of the mixture, and enables the production of self-consolidating concrete and high performance concrete.

This effect drastically improves the performance of the hardening fresh paste.
The strength of concrete increases when the water to cement ratio decreases.
However, their working mechanisms lack a full understanding, revealing in certain cases cement-superplasticizer incompatibilities.

Another benefit of superplasticizers is concrete early strength enhancement (50 to 75%).
The initial setting time may be accelerated up to an hour earlier or retarded to be an hour later according to its chemical reaction.
Retardation is sometimes associated with range of cement particle between 4 – 30 mm.
The use of superplasticizers does not significantly affect surface tension of water and does not entrain a significant amount of air.
The main disadvantage of superplasticizer usage is loss of workability as a result of rapid slump loss and incompatibility of cement and superplasticizers.

Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is made of naphthalene, sulforic acid, formalin and alkali, through sulphuration, hydrolyzation, condensation and neutralization reaction.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate contains no chloride.
Thus, Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate meets the requirements of chemical admixture specifications for concrete.

Uses
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate superplasticizer can be applied to make flowable, strong or steam-curing concrete.
The minimum working temperature can be as low as 0 degree C.
In steam curing, concrete with superplasticizer has to be strong enough before heating.
The steam curing specification has to be pre-tested. Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is particularly used as base material for compound admixtures.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate possesses the features of no retarding, no air-introducing, superplastic high water-reducing and strength enhancing.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate has low alkali content, low sulfonate, and high purity.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate can be widely used in different concretes with less dosage and easy to use.

Advantages
High water-reducing rate: Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate can reduce water more than 25%.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate has features of superplasticizer, effectively increases concrete fluidity and reduces water penetration and segregation.
Therefore, improves concrete placement and makes concrete easy to use and compacting.
Strengthening: Given the same amount of cement and slump requirement, this product can increase the concrete stress by 50-110%, 40-90%, 40-70% and 20-40% on day 1, 3, 7, and 28 respectively.
High applicability: Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate can be used with different variety of cement.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate is compatible with other admixtures.
Sodium Naphthalene Sulfonate may be used with expanding admixture, air entraining admixture as well as fly ash for supplementary and catalystic purpose.
