Soybean Extract is an extract derived from the seeds of the Soybean plant.
Soybean Extract exists as a light yellow or yellow powder with a characteristic soy-type odor.
Soy (Glycine max) comes from soybeans.

The beans are a legume that come from China.
They can be processed into soy protein, soy milk, or soy fiber.
Soy contains isoflavones which are changed in the body to phytoestrogens.

Phytoestrogen molecules are similar in chemical structure to the hormone estrogen.
In some cases, these phytoestrogens can mimic the effects of estrogen.
In other cases, these phytoestrogens can block the effects of estrogen.

Soybean Extract is an extract of the beans of the soybean, Glycine soja.
Soybeans belong to the legume family.
The part of the plant which contains the seeds is a hairy pod that grows in clusters of three to five, with up to five beans inside each one.

The beans are either round, oval or kidney-shaped.
Soybeans were first cultivated in northern China in 7000 B.C.
They were regarded as one of the most important food crops in China, along with millet.

Today, soybeans are grown worldwide.
Soy proteins smooth the skin and keep it soft and supple.
They moisturize the skin and protect against hormonal skin aging.

Soybean Extract protects hair against damage from UV radiation, helps promote the maintenence of the hair surface and cuticle, prevents dulling and fading, enhances strands for optimal color uptake, and promotes longer-lasting, more vibrant color.

IS SOYBEAN EXTRACT GOOD FOR YOUR SKIN?
Soybean extract is beneficial for the skin in several capacities.
During the microbial fermentation process of the soybean, nutrients such as fatty acids, amino acids, and isoflavones are broken down into several substances.

The proteins and amino acids found in soybean extract promote anti-aging capabilities by increasing firmness and elasticity in the skin, which is naturally lost over time.

The extraction process of Soybean Extract involves an even greater range of compounds, including carbohydrates, fiber, minerals, and proteins.
Soybean Extract is considered to be a complete protein, being a favorable plant-based protein source for those with vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.
Once extracted, Soybean Extract is packed with antioxidants, the two cores being genistein and daidzein.

Both of these antioxidants are naturally-occurring isoflavones in the body and are classified as phytoestrogen, meaning they mimic and interact with estrogen in the body.
They are known for their ability to help regulate hormonal levels, provide anti-cancer benefits, as well as improve bone and cardiovascular health.

WHAT SOYBEAN EXTRACT IN SKINCARE?
Native to East Asia, the Glycine max (or soybean) plant contains many nutritional and medicinal properties.
Originally domesticated in China, the soybean has since spread around the world, becoming commonplace in numerous recipes and used in foods such as soya sauce, tempeh, and soy milk, which is primarily used to produce tofu.
We know Soybean Extract’s astounding for our diets, but what are the advantages and disadvantages of using soybean in skincare?

IS SOYBEAN EXTRACT SAFE FOR ACNE-PRONE SKIN?
Aside from Soybean Extract’s known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, it has been shown to be useful in some users when it comes to acne-prone skin.

However, Soybean Extract is considered to have a moderately high comedogenic rating, which means it has the potential to clog pores and contribute to acne breakouts.
The comedogenicity of an ingredient often varies depending on individual skin types and sensitivities.

For individuals with acne-prone skin, Soybean Extract's generally recommended to avoid or use caution with ingredients that have a high comedogenic rating.
Soybean Extract may not be the best choice for those with acne-prone skin, as it has the potential to exacerbate breakouts or contribute to the formation of new acne lesions.

IS SOYBEAN EXTRACT COMEDOGENIC?
Soybean Extract itself is not considered highly comedogenic, meaning it has a low likelihood of clogging pores and causing acne breakouts.
Comedogenicity regarding skincare ingredients is influenced by several factors, including the concentration of Soybean Extract, the formulation of the product, and an individual's skin type and sensitivity.

While Soybean Extract is generally well-tolerated by most people, there is still a possibility that it may cause skin irritation or breakouts in some individuals, especially if they have particularly sensitive or acne-prone skin.

SOYBEAN EXTRACT SKINCARE:
The effectiveness of soybean extract in skin care products can depend on factors such as product formulation, concentration, and individual skin type.
While Soybean Extract shows promise in research, the findings are not conclusive, and more studies are needed to fully understand its potential benefits and any potential risks or interactions with medications.

As with any dietary or supplement consideration, it’s advisable to consult with a dermatologist or skincare professional before incorporating soybean extract or products containing soy into your skincare routine.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND SOYBEAN EXTRACT:
Soybean Extract as a source of vitamin E
For such a small bean, soybean oil actually has a plethora of beauty benefits – it is rich in vitamin E, essential fatty acids, and has a ‘complete protein profile’ which means the oil naturally contains all the amino acids our body needs but can’t synthesize for itself.
Soybean Extract as a supplier of essential proteins and isoflavones

Proteins are particularly vital for healthy hair growth because Soybean Extract’s what our strands are made from.
However, Soybean Extract has also been shown to prevent shedding as it contains isoflavones (a plant-derived flavonoid that works similarly to human estrogen).

These reduce the effects of DHT, a naturally occurring hormone commonly associated with hair loss.
The role of Soybean Extract in stimulating hyaluronic acid production

Soybean Extract can stimulate the body’s production of hyaluronic acid.
Soybean Extract helps the skin and scalp stay hydrated by locking moisture in and keeps the follicles healthy by creating a gel-like shield around them to further protect against DHT.

THE ANTIMICROBIAL PROPERTIES OF SOYBEAN EXTRACT:
Research has also shown that Soybean Extract has strong antimicrobial properties, and can be used to prolong the effectiveness of cosmetic products while also soothing and preventing the symptoms of dandruff.

Given the abundant presence of antioxidants in soybean extract, these contribute to a healthier and more radiant complexion.
The enzymes in soybean extract in particular inhibit melanin production, the pigment responsible for skin coloration.
Additionally, soybean extract has been studied for its potential in addressing hyperpigmentation issues, such as dark spots or uneven skin tone.

Individual results pertaining to soybean extract can vary, and the effectiveness of soybean extract for brightening skin can depend on various factors, including the concentration and formulation of the extract used, as well as an individual's unique skin characteristics.
