Starch ether is the polysaccharide compound extracted from natural plants, with the same chemical structure and similar properties compared with cellulose ethers. 
Starch ethers basic properties are as follows:

Used in building mortar, starch ether can significantly increase the consistency of mortar and improve the construction performance and sag resistance of mortar. 
Starch ether is usually used in conjunction with non-modified and modified cellulose ethers. 
Starch ether is suitable for both neutral and alkaline systems, and compatible with most of the additives in gypsum and cement products, such as surfactants, HPMC, starch and polyvinyl acetate and other water-soluble polymers.

Starch ether is mainly used for hand or machine spraying mortar, tile adhesive mortar, caulking materials and adhesives, and masonry mortar with cement and gypsum as the cementitious materials.

II Addition Amount of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) for Applications in the Following Materials

All varieties ( cement-, gypsum- based) of interior and exterior wall putty powder;
All varieties (tile, stone) of binders;
All varieties of facing mortar and plastering mortar, especially for external wall thermal insulation mortar.
The recommended amount of HPS added is 0.05%—0.15%. 
Based on the original formula, reduce the amount of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) by about 0.1%-0.2%. 
That is, 20%-30% of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) in the original formula is replaced by starch ether, which enables the workability increased, and meanwhile the production cost decreased by 10-20%.

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) can be used as an admixture of cement- and gypsum-based products, having good compatibility with other admixtures in building. 
Its use in conjunction with Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) enables to reduce the amount of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) (usually an amount of 0.05% starch ether added can reduce by about 20%-30% of HPMC’s amount), play thickening roles, promote the inner structure, possess better crack resistance and improve workability. Adding starch ether helps significantly reduce the amount of Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC).

Starch ethers enhance workability and improve the application properties of dry-mixed building products. 
They are recommended to fine-tune the anti-sagging properties, workability and consistency of dry mortars such as tile cements, plasters and renders and to increase the yield and water demand of these systems.

Starch Ether can impart unique properties to cement and gypsum based products. 
Starch ether has the similar chemical structure with Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC) that not only provide Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC)-like function, but also has good compatibility with other building additives. 
In combination with Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose(HPMC), Starch Ether can play a better thickening effect, with better crack resistance and improve workability. 
And by adding starch ether, the cost of the mortar formulation can be significantly reduced.

The properties of starch ether in dry mortar are as follows:

Due to the special chemical structure of starch ether, Starch Ether can effectively prevent the hanging phenomenon of thick layer of mortar, which has a good improvement effect on the sliding of the tile, the hanging of thick layer and other undesirable phenomenon;
Adding appropriate amount of Starch Ether in the mortar can delay the opening time of it. 
The water retention of starch ether can be kept stable with the increase of temperature. 
Therefore, the product can not only improve the water retention performance of the mortar, but also compensate the rapid retention of the water retention capacity of the ordinary water retention agent with the increase of the temperature;
Starch Ether has a fast thickening function for mortar, which can improve the rheology of spray mortar and plaster mortar;
Starch Ether can effectively prevent the stratification/segregation of the mortar, which can be well used in self-leveling mortar;
Starch Ethers are added in the following materials:

Inner and outer wall putty powder of various types(cement, gypsum base);
Various types of(tile, stone) binders;
All kinds of facing mortar and plaster mortar, especially the exterior wall insulation mortar.

Starch ethers are added to mortars in order to modify the rheology of the fresh mortar by bridging flocculation.
The proper function as a flocculant for cement requires that the starch ether molecules possess anionic charged functional groups.

Starch Ether is a white fine powder obtained from natural plant as raw material after modification, high etherification reaction and spray drying. Starch Ether does not contain plasticizer. 

Starch Ether is a kind of etherified starch, which is formed by etherification of propylene oxide and starch, replacing the hydroxyl group in the polymer structure of starch. 

Physical properties: 
White (colorless) powder, good fluidity, good water solubility, transparent colorless water solution, good stability. 
Starch Ether is stable to acid and alkali, and its scorching temperature is lower than that of the original starch, and its cold and hot viscosity changes are more stable than that of the original starch. 
Mixing with salt and sucrose had no effect on viscosity.
