SWEET ALMOND OIL

EC / List no.: 616-913-8
CAS no.: 8007-69-0

What is Sweet Almond Oil?
Nearly half of a dried almond’s weight is oil.
Ripe almonds are pressed to extract the oil with minimal heat.

This unrefined Sweet Almond Oil protects the nutrients and the flavor of the oil.
High heat and sometimes chemicals are used to create refined Sweet Almond Oil.

While refined Sweet Almond Oil is more heat-tolerant, it may lack the nutritional value of unrefined varieties.
Almond Oil, which is also called sweet almond oil, is not the same as bitter almond oil.

Sweet Almond Oil general benefits
Sweet Almond Oil is full of vitamin E, and it’s a great source of magnesium, phosphorus, and copper.
The antioxidant-rich oil is known for its free radical fighting abilities. It’s also anti-inflammatory and boosts immunity.

Containing omega-3 fatty acids, Sweet Almond Oil might help you maintain healthy cholesterol levels and improve your memory.
Sweet Almond Oil may help lower your risk for diseases like cancer and heart disease.

Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil for skin
Sweet Almond Oil has been used for centuries to soothe the skin and treat minor wounds and cuts.
Sweet Almond Oil has been used in ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic practices to treat skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

More than soothing dry skin, Sweet Almond Oil can improve complexion and skin tone.
It’s highly emollient, which means it helps to balance the absorption of moisture and water loss.
Because it is antibacterial and full of vitamin A, Sweet Almond Oil can be used to treat acne.
Its concentration of vitamin E can also help to heal sun damage, reduce the signs of aging, and fade scars.

Sweet Almond Oil soaks in quickly and is a powerful moisturizer, so it can be used on the face or body.
You can apply it straight, or mix it with essential oils to get its benefits. Beyond moisturizing your skin, Sweet Almond Oil is a great massage oil or skin treatment.

Sweet Almond Oil also has powerful antifungal properties.
Rub it on your feet to prevent athlete’s foot or to help remove other fungal infections like ringworm.
You can use Sweet Almond Oil as a cleanser or to gently remove makeup as well.

Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil for hair
Your skin isn’t the only thing that can benefit from Sweet Almond Oil.
The nourishing oil can soften and strengthen your hair.
It’s rich in vitamin B-7, or biotin, so Sweet Almond Oil helps to keep hair and nails healthy and strong.
Sweet Almond Oil can also help protect your hair from sun damage, with a natural SPF 5.

You can use Sweet Almond Oil as a scalp treatment.
Its antibacterial and fungicidal properties make it effective at balancing the yeast that causes dandruff.
Sweet Almond Oil easily soaks into the skin, so Sweet Almond Oil works well at hydrating the scalp and cleansing the hair follicles.

You can also smooth frizz and heal damaged hair with Sweet Almond Oil.
Apply a dime-sized amount or less to the ends of your hair before drying to hydrate and decrease frizz.

Should you cook with Sweet Almond Oil?
Your heart will thank you for eating Sweet Almond Oil.
Full of monounsaturated fatty acids, Sweet Almond Oil can elevate the levels of “good” cholesterol, or high-density lipoproteins (HDL).
Sweet Almond Oil can also lower levels of “bad” cholesterol, or low-density lipoproteins (LDL), when it replaces saturated and trans fats.

Sweet Almond Oil can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease because of its high levels of antioxidants, its ability to decrease inflammation in the body, and its effect on cholesterol.

When cooking with Sweet Almond Oil, remember to keep unrefined or virgin oils at low heat to prevent burning the oil and destroying the nutritional value.
Sweet Almond Oil is best used for salad dressing, low-heat baking, or as finishing oil on top of a dish to add extra flavor and nutrition.

Its mild flavor makes it perfect for slipping into dishes.
Refined oil can be used for roasting or sautéing because it has been processed to tolerate a much higher heat, up to 420°F (215°C).

What Is Sweet Almond Oil?
Almonds are the edible seeds of the Prunus dulcis tree, more commonly known as the almond tree.

Although almonds are commonly referred to as nuts, they’re actually the seeds found at the center of the almond fruit, which closely resembles a peach.

Almonds can be consumed whole, ground into flour and even made into non-dairy milk.

They are very rich in fat, making them a perfect source of oil.

Sweet almonds are the variety typically eaten and used to make foods, oils and cosmetics.

Meanwhile, bitter almonds are believed to have medicinal properties, though they can be toxic if they’re not properly processed.
Moreover, they’re not widely available.

Refined vs Unrefined Sweet Almond Oil
After harvesting, almonds are hulled and dried before different methods are used to extract their oil.

Refined Sweet Almond Oil is extracted from almonds using high-heat processing and chemicals.

This method negatively affects the nutritional value of the oil, as many of the nutrients found in raw Sweet Almond Oil are destroyed during high-heat or chemical treatments.

While this method results in a less nutritious oil, refined Sweet Almond Oil can withstand much higher temperatures and is less expensive than the unrefined type, making it a more cost-effective option for consumers.

Unrefined Sweet Almond Oil is made by pressing raw almonds without the use of high heat or chemical agents.

This low-heat process helps Sweet Almond Oil retain much of its nutrient content, making unrefined Sweet Almond Oil a better choice for culinary uses.

Sweet Almond Oil Nutrition
Although Sweet Almond Oil is not as rich in nutrients as whole almonds, it has nutritional benefits.

Fatty Acid Breakdown
Here are the proportions of fatty acids found in Sweet Almond Oil:

Monounsaturated fat: 70%
Polyunsaturated fat: 20%
Saturated fat: 10%
A diet rich in unsaturated fats has been linked to many health benefits, including a reduced risk of heart disease and obesity.

Potential Health Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil
Whole almonds are thought help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels and aid in weight loss, and Sweet Almond Oil may be good for your health as well.

In fact, Sweet Almond Oil has been linked to a wide range of potential health benefits, including lowering the risk of heart disease and stabilizing blood sugar levels.

May Help Keep Your Heart Healthy
Sweet Almond Oil consists of 70% monounsaturated fat, which has been researched for its effects on heart health.

Monounsaturated fats have been shown to increase levels of “good” HDL cholesterol.

HDL is a type of protein that carries cholesterol away from the arteries and transports it to the liver, where it is broken down and excreted from the body.
Healthy levels of HDL cholesterol have been shown to help protect against heart disease.

Both almonds and Sweet Almond Oil have also been shown to lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol.

High levels of LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol are considered risk factors for heart disease.
Lowering these levels can help keep the heart healthy.

In one small study, a diet rich in Sweet Almond Oil significantly lowered both LDL and total cholesterol levels, while raising HDL cholesterol by 6%.

High in Antioxidants
Sweet Almond Oil is a great source of the potent antioxidant vitamin E.

In fact, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of this nutty oil delivers 26% of the recommended daily intake.

Vitamin E is a group of eight fat-soluble compounds that have antioxidant properties.

These compounds protect cells from harmful substances called free radicals.

While free radicals are necessary for health, they can cause damage if their numbers grow too high in the body.

Free radical overload leads to oxidative damage and has been linked to a number of chronic diseases, including cancer and heart disease
Studies have shown that higher intakes of vitamin E can help lower the risk of heart disease, age-related macular degeneration and cognitive decline in the elderly.
May Be Beneficial for Blood Sugar Control
Adding Sweet Almond Oil to your diet may help keep your blood sugar stable.

This oil is rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, both of which have been shown to help lower blood sugar in people with diabetes.

In fact, replacing carbs with unsaturated fats has been shown to lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin resistance and levels of HbA1c, a marker for long-term blood sugar control.

In one study, participants who consumed a breakfast with added Sweet Almond Oil had lower blood sugar, both after the meal and throughout the day, compared to participants who did not eat Sweet Almond Oil .

What’s more, the participants who consumed Sweet Almond Oil felt fuller after their meal, leading them to consume less throughout the day.

May Aid Weight Loss When Paired With a Reduced-Calorie Diet
A diet rich in healthy fats may help you lose weight.

Many people avoid fats when they’re trying to drop pounds, but consuming the right kinds of fats can be beneficial for weight loss.

A diet that includes a healthy amount of whole almonds has been shown to help people shed excess weight.
Likewise, adding Sweet Almond Oil to your diet may help you lose fat.

Diets rich in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats have been shown to decrease body fat and promote weight loss.

In one study, a diet high in monounsaturated fats improved weight loss and body composition in obese women.

Another large study including 7,447 people found that a diet high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats led to a greater reduction in body weight and belly fat, compared to a low-fat diet .

Sweet Almond Oil Beauty Benefits
Sweet Almond Oil is a popular ingredient in natural beauty products. This mild and soothing oil is beneficial for both the skin and hair.

This is partly thanks to its emollient properties, meaning it helps prevent water loss from the skin.

This quality makes Sweet Almond Oil an excellent choice to keep the skin, hair and scalp soft and hydrated.

The moisturizing effects of Sweet Almond Oil may be especially helpful for people who have dry or sensitive skin.

Sweet Almond Oil is packed with vitamin E, which may help protect the skin from sun damage and premature aging.

Animal studies have shown that when applied to the skin, vitamin E may help protect cells from sun damage.
Sweet Almond Oil does this by reducing DNA damage and chemical and structural changes in the skin that have been caused by the sun’s rays.

This makes using unrefined Sweet Almond Oil important in skin care as well, as unrefined oil is higher in vitamin E.

What’s more, this soothing oil may even help prevent the spread of stretch marks.

One study in 160 women found that the topical application of sweet almond oil reduced the spread of stretch marks in the abdominal area, as well as redness and itching .

This versatile oil makes a great choice for people looking for natural beauty products that have a limited number of ingredients and can be used in many ways.

Sweet Almond Oil can function as a gentle makeup remover, a natural skin or hair moisturizer or a velvety massage oil.

How to Use Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet Almond Oil is a multipurpose product that can be used as both a food and natural skin and hair care product.

In the Kitchen
Sweet Almond Oil is a mild, nutty-tasting oil that makes a great addition to many dishes.

Unrefined Sweet Almond Oil should not be used in cooking, as high temperatures can destroy its nutritional value.

Rather, this type of Sweet Almond Oil should be treated more as a finishing oil and added to foods after the cooking process is completed.

However, refined Sweet Almond Oil has a higher smoke point of 420°F (215°C) and can be used for cooking methods like roasting and sautéing.

It’s less expensive and more heat-tolerant than the unrefined kind, as the refinement process destroys much of the nutrients in unrefined Sweet Almond Oil.

Here are several ways to use unrefined Sweet Almond Oil:

As a tasty salad dressing: Combine unrefined Sweet Almond Oil with apple cider vinegar and chopped herbs.
To add a nutty flavor to meals: Drizzle Sweet Almond Oil over your favorite side dish to give it an extra kick.
Over pasta: Add a bit of Sweet Almond Oil to your pasta to add a boost of healthy fats.
As Part of Your Beauty Routine
If you are looking to swap out some of your skin and hair products for more natural, non-toxic options, Sweet Almond Oil is a great way to go.

Sweet Almond Oil is less expensive than most commercially made moisturizers and doesn’t contain any harmful ingredients.

Furthermore, it’s a multipurpose beauty product that can be used both on the skin and hair.

Below are some ways to add Sweet Almond Oil to your skin or hair care routine.

Apply it to extra-dry spots: Rub Sweet Almond Oil on the elbows, feet and any other areas that tend to get dry.

What is sweet almond oil?
Sweet almond oil is extracted from the kernel of the almond fruit.
Mainly found in the United States and hot countries like Spain, Iran and Morocco, it is harvested for pressing.
Almond is the botanical name of this fruit, but manufacturers refer to the seed that comes out of its shell as almond kernel.

Cold pressing of almonds
As soon as these kernels have been harvested, the first cold pressing produces this precious liquid. The second and third presses are hot or extracted from cold.
Modern technologies make it possible to harvest this oil which, contrary to ancient knowledge, does not have the same virtues.

This natural oil has been recognized for its moisturising properties since ancient Egypt, and other benefits were later discovered.
The most fragile skin and hair especially appreciate it.

A 100% pure and natural oil
While commercially available moisturisers are saturated with chemicals, baby skin deserves a more natural solution.
The sweet almond oil obtained after the first cold pressing is ideal for these fragile skins.

The role of olive oil
Once the kernels are crushed and mixed, a dose of olive oil is added.
The mixture is then stored so that the enriched oil of the almond separates from the pulp.
The sweet almond oil is then ready to use. Here are 13 ways to use it!

How to use sweet almond oil?
1. Hydrate and nourish delicate skin
Gentle on the skin, sweet almond oil manages to delicately hydrate. Rich in iron, zinc, copper and fatty acids, it is ideal for deeply nourishing the skin.
Without chemical agents, it suits the most sensitive skin.
Babies love it, as does delicate skin. On the face or body, as a massage or as a daily moisturiser, it is perfect.
Cocooncenter offers you a selection of sweet almond oils ideal to meet all your needs.

2. Soothe and heal
Known for skin problems, sweet almond oil provides relief for babies with eczema.
Sweet Almond Oil effectively relieves itching.
Its soothing action is also ideal in cases of nappy rash.
Its use is preferable to cortisone solution which can be dangerous for infants.
Sweet Almond Oil can therefore be applied between two nappy changes to calm inflammation.

3. Baby Massage
Massages are important to create a bond with baby and to help relaxation.
Baby Sweet Almond Oil has a pleasant scent and is deeply hydrating. After bathing, this parent / child exchange is very pleasant.
These massages also relieve colic.
Concentrating the massaging on the stomach action can assist in eliminating pain.

4. Nourishment of dry skin
Rich in omega 3, 6 and 9, sweet almond oil has a high moisturising power.
Sweet Almond Oil is therefore recommended for dry skin.
Sweet Almond Oil can finally regain its elasticity and comfort.
Applied to clean skin, after a shower or bath, this natural oil provides in depth nourishment.

5. Eliminate wrinkles
Enriched with vitamins A and E, sweet almond oil is a natural antioxidant for the face.
Its daily application therefore makes it possible to reduce wrinkles.
With daily application, the signs of aging disappear.
To be able to take care of your skin without harming it, a refined sweet almond oil is perfect for fighting fine lines and wrinkles.

6. Fight against stretch marks
Stretch marks appear when the skin is too loose.
Sweet Almond Oil cracks and fine streaks or scars appear on the skin.
The rich formula of this natural oil hydrates the lower layers of the epidermis.
The skin is therefore more elastic and does not crack.
The sweet almond oil offered by Cocooncenter is therefore very useful in prevention.
Pregnant women should use it during pregnancy to avoid this phenomenon.

In a spray or in a bottle, this natural product can also be applied to existing stretch marks.
Indeed, its healing properties put an end to inflammation and help regenerate the skin.

7. Regain smooth and shiny hair
Dry, damaged hair is dull and difficult to comb.
To restore its vigour, sweet almond oil is perfect.
As a mask or styling oil, it tames frizz and facilitates styling. The hair becomes shinier.

8. Restore the balance of the scalp
When the level of sebum is too high, the hair tends to become greasy too quickly.
Using sweet almond oil on the hair prevents this from happening. Used after shampooing, it hydrates the hair while reducing the production of sebum.

9. An emollient to ease an itchy scalp
Stress and the use of chemicals can cause itching and irritation to the scalp.
In a gentle massage, sweet almond hair oil provides immediate relief.

10. Use to massage the skin and the scalp
To nourish the skin and fight against irritation, just take a few drops of sweet almond oil and massage the affected area.
Using your fingertips, this procedure will provide you with rapid relief.

11. As a hydrating mask
For the face and scalp, sweet almond hair oil can be used as a mask.
Sweet Almond Oil should be applied to the face and then left to absorb for about fifteen minutes. For the hair, it can be left overnight before rinsing. Here's how to do it:

Cover the hair in oil all over, mixing it with the same proportions of olive oil and tea tree oil. Then add 2 teaspoons of honey;
Put a scarf over the hair;
Leave to absorb overnight;
Shampoo as normal the next day.
Done once or twice a month, this mask helps regulate sebum without drying out the hair.

12. To remove makeup
Used together with micellar water, it removes make-up and hydrates the face in a single step.
In an empty bottle, make up a mixture of 1/3 sweet almond oil  2/3 micellar water.
Then just apply it using a cotton pad.
On the eyes or the mouth, this natural product removes all traces of make-up without having to resort to aggressive skin products.

13. As a dry oil for body and hair
To restore the correct level of hydration, a few drops of sweet almond oil can be sprayed on the skin or hair.
Spray bottles are useful to ensure the right dose is obtained.
Anti-drip bottles can also be used after a shower or bath to hydrate the whole body.

Sweet almond oil is the oil extracted from the fruit of the deciduous almond tree (Prunus dulcis).
Native to Asia and the Middle East, almond trees first appeared in the United States in the 19th century.
Cold-pressed Sweet Almond Oil is extracted from almonds by pressing them with a modern steel press.

Jam-packed with antioxidants and fatty acids, sweet almond oil penetrates deeply into the skin and hair to deliver immediate benefits.

Types
There are two types of Sweet Almond Oils, each with their own uses:

Sweet almond oil: Extracted from sweet almonds, commonly used as an ingredient in skin care and hair products.

Uses of Sweet Almond Oil
Whether you’re drinking it in smoothies or using it topically as part of your daily self-care and beauty routine, Sweet Almond Oil—thanks to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties—has many uses.
Sweet almond oil is available in stores and online as pure oil, and can also be found in many cosmetic and hair-care products, including:

Soaps
Lotions
Body butter
Lip balm
Shampoo/conditioner
Body wash
Brightening serums
Facial cleansers

Vitamin A
Rich in vitamin A, Sweet Almond Oil can give your skin a healthy, radiant glow. Vitamin A (retinol) is known to prevent acne breakouts and is helpful in maintaining a hydrated, healthy dermis and epidermis—the top two layers of the skin.
Vitamin A also stimulates the production of new skin cells, helping keep skin firm and healthy and reduce the appearance of fine lines.

Vitamin D
Vitamin D—the “sunshine vitamin”—is beneficial to skin and hair health.
Studies show that a lack of vitamin D can lead to dry skin, hair loss, delayed wound healing, and certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis.

When applied topically to the skin, Sweet Almond Oil rich in vitamin D may help reduce bacterial overgrowth and clear up red and inflamed acne.
Sweet Almond Oil is also helpful in alleviating symptoms of dermatitis and preventing hair loss.

Vitamin E
Sweet Almond Oil is one of the best dietary sources of vitamin E—a powerful antioxidant that protects the body from harmful free radicals that have been linked to many chronic diseases and aging.
Thanks to being loaded with vitamin E, Sweet Almond Oil—when applied topically—is known for fading scars, healing sun damage, and reducing the signs of aging.

Minerals
Sweet Almond Oil is rich in minerals that are good for the skin and overall health and wellbeing, including magnesium, calcium, potassium, and zinc.
Zinc is particularly helpful for clearing up acne.
Magnesium helps prevent calcium build-up on the scalp, reducing dandruff and dry, flaky scalp and also helps promote hair growth.

Omega Fatty Acids
Omega fatty acids are remarkably beneficial to skin health.
They serve as the essential building blocks of our skin, delivering antioxidants for anti-aging results.

Sweet Almond Oil has a balanced fatty acid composition, and contains up to 30% of linoleic acid—an omega-6 essential fatty acid that results in better moisture retention, which is key to maintaining hydrated, healthy skin.

Whether you consume food grade Sweet Almond Oil or apply it directly to the skin, the fatty acids within help create a smoother, younger-looking, healthier complexion, no matter your skin type or age.

Vitamin K
If you’re dealing with stretch marks, spider veins, and scars on your skin, Sweet Almond Oil may help reduce their appearance, thanks to the presence of vitamin K.
This little-known nutrient plays a big role in keeping your skin healthy

Vitamin K in Sweet Almond Oil strengthens capillaries throughout the body and reduces fluid retention under the eyes, giving you a rejuvenated, youthful look.
Vitamin K is also known for reducing skin redness and soothing sensitive skin.

Benefits
These are the benefits Sweet Almond Oil may have for skin and skin conditions.

Treats Skin Conditions
Sweet Almond Oil is both a moisturizer (provides hydration) and emollient (smooths the skin), which makes it a popular choice for skin care products.
Non-irritating and light, it is safe for sensitive skin.
Sweet Almond Oil has been used medicinally for millennia to treat uncomfortable skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

Research shows it is effective at treating dermatitis, offering relief from burning, stinging, red and itchy skin.
Thanks to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, Sweet Almond Oil works well for acne-prone skin, helping reduce redness and inflammation.

Some people use Sweet Almond Oil as a daily face moisturizer. Thanks to its emollient properties, it is known to improve complexion and skin tone.

Reduces Scarring
Wound healing after injury or post-surgery often causes scarring on the skin.
In Ayurvedic and ancient Chinese medicine, Sweet Almond Oil was used to reduce the appearance of scars and soothe the skin.
Both anecdotal evidence and clinical experiences demonstrate that Sweet Almond Oil helps reduce post-surgical scarring.

The anti-inflammatory properties of the oil are said to help reduce the appearance of scars, though more research is needed to demonstrate its effectiveness in reducing post-surgical scarring.

Sweet Almond Oil is a popular natural remedy to help calm and smooth the skin, and some people use it to reduce the appearance of acne scars on the face.

Eliminate Stretch Marks
When your body experiences rapid growth—such as during puberty or pregnancy—the stretching can cause the skin’s collagen and elastin to rupture.
As the skin heals, stretch marks form on the body.
Research shows that Sweet Almond Oil can not only prevent stretch marks in pregnant people, but also reduce itching caused by stretch marks as the skin heals.

One study of pregnant women found that when Sweet Almond Oil was applied directly to the skin each day, stretch marks were less likely to develop.
If you already have stretch marks, massaging Sweet Almond Oil on the skin regularly may help fade their appearance while also toning and softening the skin.

Reduces UV Damage
Spending time out in the sun?
Prolonged exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause premature aging, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots on the skin.
Research shows that Sweet Almond Oil is effective at slowing down the aging process caused by sun damage.

Sweet Almond Oil is an effective barrier, protecting the skin from harmful UV rays.
The vitamin E contained in the oil has antioxidant properties that prevent cell damage from UV rays.

A small clinical study showed that Sweet Almond Oil sunscreen has an SPF of 15, and is comparable to other commercial SPF 15 sunscreens.
In a study on animal models, Sweet Almond Oil effectively prevented skin damage from the sun when applied topically.

Applying Sweet Almond Oil to your face and body along with a good sunscreen can help prevent sun damage and premature aging to keep your skin looking youthful.

Promotes Healthy Hair
No matter your hair type, Sweet Almond Oil has advantages for improving both the appearance and health of your hair.
When added to shampoo, Sweet Almond Oil can give the hair a natural-appearing shine, helping it appear healthy and radiant.

At a cellular level, Sweet Almond Oil’s emollient properties contribute to repairing existing damage to the hair, restoring moisture and elasticity thanks to being rich in omega fatty acids.

One study showed that applying Sweet Almond Oil directly to the scalp can help reverse hair loss, though more research is needed to prove its effectiveness in promoting hair growth.

If you’re experiencing an itchy, red scalp or dandruff, applying Sweet Almond Oil directly to the scalp can help reduce inflammation and soothe an irritated scalp.
Dealing with frizzy hair? Adding a pea-sized amount of Sweet Almond Oil to the ends of your hair can hydrate and decrease the frizz.
