Synthesis
A method of preparing 2-hexyl-1-decanol (isomeric hexadecanol), the steps are as follows:
(1) 130g of n-octanol and 3.5g, 45wt% of aqueous sodium hydroxide solution were sequentially added to a 250ml three-necked flask and mixed, and then stirred at a speed of 250rpm for 8min and then warmed up to 165C, and reacted for 3h;
(2) the mixture of step (1) was cooled down to 20C afterward, and added 0.28 g zinc powder, stirring for 8min after heating to 195 , reaction 5h; and then continue to raise the temperature to 240 , reaction 30min, and then reduced to 20 ;
(3) the reaction product of step (2) to add 120g of n-heptane extraction, water washing to pH value of 6 ~ 7; control of the vacuum level is maintained at -0.096 ~ 0.098MPa, by decompression distillation, collection of 170 ~190 fraction, obtained 111.02 g colorless transparent liquid, that is, 2-hexyl-1-decanol (isomeric hexadecanol), yield 91.75%.
The WATER gel permeation chromatograph showed that the number average molecular weight of the colorless transparent liquid was 238 g/mol, Mw/Mn=1.05, and the hydroxyl content of the colorless transparent liquid was 7.15%, which was similar to the theoretical hydroxyl content of 7.02%, and it was determined that the product was isomeric hexadecanol (2-hexyl-1-decanol).
The purity of the product was 96.79% by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
