Introduction

Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is a versatile elastomer that combines the high-performance properties of rubber with the processability of plastic. Not all TPU films are food-grade. For a TPU film to be considered safe for food contact, it must be formulated without plasticizers or hazardous additives that could migrate into food. Specific resin grades, such as those from BASF (Elastollan® FC series) or Huntsman (IROGRAN® FCM series), are specifically designed for food contact and medical applications, offering benefits like being plasticizer-free, phthalate-free, and highly transparent.
