TYLOSE PSO 810001

TYLOSE PSO 810001 is a new type of Methyl Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (MHPC) for thickening systems based on organic solvents - hand sanitizers, paint removers, cleaners, adhesives, pastes and more.
TYLOSE PSO 810001 is a water-soluble, non-ionic, highly etherified methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose powder.

TYLOSE PSO 810001 displays increased biostability and very high thickening effects.
TYLOSE PSO 810001 is ideal for use in paint-stripping pastes.

TYLOSE PSO 810001 dissolves well in many organic solvents, including:
Ethanol
Acetone
Methanol
Isopropanol
Butyl diglycol
1,3-Butanediol
Methylene chloride
DBE (Dibasic esters)
DMF (Dimethyl Formamide)
DMSO (Dimethyl sufloxide)
NEP (N-Ethyl-2-pyrrolidone)
BDGA (Butyl diglycol acetate)
NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone)
1,2-Propanediol (Propylene glycol)
TPM (Tripropylene glycol monomethyl ether)
DPM (Dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether)

TYLOSE PSO 810001 can be added directly to the organic solvent at room temperature with stirring.
Depending on the solvent, the mixing time is approximately 60 minutes.
The final viscosity is reached within 24 hours.

Thickening organic solvents is a difficult task.
Standard cellulose ethers either do not work well or work only in very few organic solvents or in systems with high water content.
The currently available thickeners for organic solvents have serious drawbacks such as severe limitations in regard to the appropriate solvents, poor performance and complicated processing.

As a solution to these problems SE TYLOSE has developed TYLOSE PSO 810001, a methyl hydroxypropyl cellulose (MHPC) which acts as a thickener for a much broader range of organic solvents.
TYLOSE PSO 810001 performs exceedingly well in most polar organic solvents, organic solvent mixtures and organic solvent/water systems.
Fields of application include paint strippers, adhesives and fuel pastes.

Typical MHPC grades are known to exhibit inverse solubility in water, which means that they are less or not soluble in hot water, but soluble in cold water.
TYLOSE PSO 810001 also shows this behaviour in water but TYLOSE PSO 810001 solubility in organic solvents reflects a normal expectation: Increasing solubility with rising temperature.

Thus, in waterless organic solvents, TYLOSE PSO 810001 can be added directly to organic solvents at room temperature (or below) under stirring.
If necessary, the mixture can then be heated.
In case of organic solvent mixtures, TYLOSE PSO 810001 often works perfectly well, even if none of the components used alone is an appropriate solvent.

TYLOSE PSO 810001 is even possible to use a non-polar solvent in a mixture to suspend TYLOSE PSO 810001 prior to the dissolution.
The resulting dispersion can then be thickened by adding the polar components of the solvent mixture.
TYLOSE PSO 810001 provides a flexible high performance method to thicken many solvents and solvent based systems
