C8 CAPROIC ACID

CAS:    142-62-1
MF:    C6H12O2
MW:    116.16
EINECS:    205-550-7

C8 Caproic Acid, is the carboxylic acid derived from hexane with the general formula C5H11COOH.
C8 Caproic Acid is a colorless oily liquid with an odor that is fatty, cheesy, waxy, and like that of goats or other barnyard animals.
C8 Caproic Acid is a fatty acid found naturally in various animal fats and oils, and is one of the chemicals that give the decomposing fleshy seed coat of the ginkgo its characteristic unpleasant odor.
The primary use of C8 Caproic Acid is in the manufacture of its esters for artificial flavors, and in the manufacture of hexyl derivatives, such as hexylphenols.
C8 Caproic Acid belongs to medium chain triglycerides (MCT) that are widely used as a nutrition supplement that added to foods, drugs and cosmetics.

C8 Caproic Acid, also known as C8, is a powerful medium-chain triglyceride that’s found in coconut oil, MCT oil, and breast milk.
Though C8 Caproic Acid commonly gets lumped in with other MCTs, caprylic acid has an impressive variety of unique benefits that set it apart from its counterparts.
On its own, C8 Caproic Acid can aid in weight loss, increase ketone production, fight infections, improve skin conditions, fight yeast infections, lower cholesterol, and calm digestive disorders like leaky gut.

C8 Caproic Acid, also known as C8 or octanoic acid, is a medium chain triglyceride (MCT) primarily found in coconut oil.
C8 Caproic Acid’s the shortest of all the medium chain triglycerides, making it the easiest for the body to break down into fuel.
Once C8 Caproic Acid’s consumed, C8 is instantly digested and converted into ketones.

Structurally, C8 Caproic Acid is a saturated medium-chain fatty acid with an 8-carbon long tail, which gives it its nickname, C8.
Unlike other C8 Caproic Acid's which contain 10 or 12 carbons, C8's shorter tail means the body can break it down and absorb its benefits faster.

C8 Caproic Acid's like caprylic acid are typically extracted from coconut oil.
C8 Caproic Acid can also be extracted from palm oil, a less sustainable source.
Additionally, C8 Caproic Acid is found naturally in the breast milk of certain mammals like humans and goats.
As a matter of fact, the latin word for goat, capra, is the root of caprylic acid.

C8 Caproic Acid can be found in small concentrations in a standard virgin coconut oil (between 5-10%), whereas in a standard MCT oil, that concentration rises significantly to nearly 40%.
But C8 Caproic Acid's most potent source is an isolated C8 MCT oil, where concentrations of C8 as high as 75%-100% can be found.

C8 Caproic Acid, also known as hexanoic acid, is the carboxylic acid derived from hexane with the chemical formula CH3(CH2)4COOH.
C8 Caproic Acid is a colorless oily liquid with an odor that is fatty, cheesy, waxy, and like that of goats[1] or other barnyard animals.
C8 Caproic Acid is a fatty acid found naturally in various animal fats and oils, and is one of the chemicals that gives the decomposing fleshy seed coat of the ginkgo its characteristic unpleasant odor.
C8 Caproic Acid is also one of the components of vanilla and cheese.
The primary use of C8 Caproic Acid is in the manufacture of its esters for use as artificial flavors, and in the manufacture of hexyl derivatives, such as hexylphenols.
Salts and esters of C8 Caproic Acid are known as caproates or hexanoates.
Several progestin medications are caproate esters, such as hydroxyprogesterone caproate and gestonorone caproate.

Two other acids are named after goats: caprylic acid (C8) and capric acid (C10).
Along with C8 Caproic Acid, they account for 15% of the fat in goat's milk.

Caproic, caprylic, and capric acids (capric is a crystal- or wax-like substance, whereas the other two are mobile liquids) are not only used for the formation of esters, but also commonly used "neat" in: butter, milk, cream, strawberry, bread, beer, nut, and other flavors.

C8 Caproic Acid is a colourless liquid that has a sickening, sweaty, rancid, sour, sharp, pungent, cheesy, fatty, unpleasant odor reminiscent of copra oil.
C8 Caproic Acid exhibits an acrid taste. Hexanoic acid may be prepared by fractionation of the volatile fatty acids of coconut oil.
C8 Caproic Acid is oily, colorless or slightly yellow, and liquid at room temperature.
Odor is that of Limburger cheese.
Soluble in alcohol and ether; slightly soluble in water.
C8 Caproic Acid is derived from the crude fermentation of butyric acid; or by fractional distillation of natural fatty acids.
C8 Caproic Acid appears as a white crystalline solid or colorless to light yellow solution with an unpleasant odor.
Insoluble to slightly soluble in water and less dense than water.
Contact may severely irritate skin, eyes and mucous membranes.
May be toxic by ingestion, inhalation and skin absorption.
C8 Caproic Acid used to make perfumes.

Uses
C8 Caproic Acid is used to prepare esters by reacting with alcohols, which finds application in artificial flavors.
C8 Caproic Acid is also involved in the production of hexylphenols, hexanoates and caproates.
Further, C8 Caproic Acid is used as non-viral gene carrier as well as to protect tomato plants from Botrytis cinerea.
C8 Caproic Acid is a carboxylic acid used as a building block for biochemical research

Preparation
