DIBUTYLTIN OXIDE (DBTO)

Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is an organotin compound.
The amorphous, granular white powder is very difficult to dissolve in organic solvents or in water.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) has a strong smell, but is not corrosive and neutral in the product, so no separation is required after the reaction has ended.

CAS: 818-08-6
Formula: C8H18OSn

Synonyms: ;Dibutyloxotin;dibutyl-tioxide;di-n-dibutyltin;Dibutyltin oxide;Di-n-butyltin oxide;di-n-butyl-zinn-oxyd;dibutyl(oxo)stannane;Dibutyl stancic oxide;di-n-butylslannicoxide;Dibutyltin oxide(DBTO);DI-N-BUTYLTIN OXIDE (DBTO)

Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is used as a versatile catalyst and stabilizer.
The broadest applications are found in esterification reactions and transesterification reactions, such as in the transesterification of natural fatty acids, aminocarboxylic acids and in regioselective tosylation.
The catalytic properties are also used in condensation reactions, for example silanol condensation.
Among the economically most important applications of Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) are paints and coatings, especially in the automotive industry and for industrial applications.
As a stabilizer Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) ensures longer product life cycles in plastics.

In addition, Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is an essential intermediate for the production of other organotin compounds such as dibutyltin dilaurate, which is also widely used as a curing catalyst in polyurethanes and silicones.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO), or dibutyloxotin, is an organotin compound with the chemical formula (C4H9)2SnO.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is a colorless solid that, when pure, is insoluble in organic solvents.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is used as a reagent and a catalyst.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is used as an Esterification catalyst, PU & Silicone curing catalysts, intermediate for producing PVC heat stabilizers.
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is a neutral catalyst mostly applied for faster rate of reaction, improves colour, better control of reaction in Esterifications, Trans-Esterifications, & polycondensations processes.

Uses
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is one of the intermediates in the synthesis of organotin, which is applied to PVC heat stabilizer, SPC self-polishing marine antifouling coatings, etc.
Short Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) for Dibutyltin oxide, a chemical that finds use in many products we did not even think about like paint and plastic, as well as the Lingshi's organotin stabilizers.
A great many companies use a lot of Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) in their manufacturing processes and, as much as it is dying to kill animals from the sea.
Studies have found that Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) is especially harmful to the reproductive organs of fish and other marine animals, which might potentially effecting their ability to reproduce effectively in the wild.

Production method
There are two main industrial processes:

1. The Grignard method uses chlorobutane or bromobutane as a starting material to produce tetrabutyltin by Grignard reaction, which is then reacted with tin tetrachloride to form Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO).
Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO) was treated with caustic soda to obtain dibutyltin oxide.
The steps of Grignard method are complicated, but the side reaction is less and the purity of the product is high.

2. The direct method includes the iodoalkane method, the bromoalkane method and the chloroalkane method, among which the iodoalkane method is most commonly used, and the direct method has a simple process, but many side reactions, poor product quality and relatively expensive iodine consumption.
