Profile:
Hostacerin T 3 is a very interesting nonionic emulsifier for cosmetic emulsions.
Hostacerin T 3 shows powerful emulsifying action and supports thickening leading to stable emulsions.

When used as thickening co-emulsifier the action of Hostacerin T 3 may be explained by the concept of three phase emulsions (water, dispersed fluid phase and liquid crystalline gel network) where the liquid crystal phase is usually based on a mixture of a hydrophilic emulsifier and a co-surfactant with lower HLB value.
The co-emulsifier should have a melting point significantly higher than room temperature to ensure that the gel network formed is stable even at elevated temperatures.

The liquid crystalline gel network acts to stabilize the emulsions as well as increase thier viscosity.
Since Hostacerin T 3 shows a strong thickening action, no further cetyl alcohol or stearyl alcohol is needed in such emulsions.

Applications of Hostacerin T-3:
Hostacerin T 3 can be used as a nonionic emulsifier and co-emulsifier for all types of cosmetic emulsions.
Besides traditional creams and lotions, excellent hair conditioner rinses can be made with Hostacerin T 3.

Preparation of emulsions of Hostacerin T-3:
Emulsions can be prepared by the methods normally employed in the cosmetics industry.
Hostacerin T 3 is preferably heated to 70-80 °C with the selected oil and fatty components and any other emulsifiers used.
The aqueous phase is heated to the same temperature and stirred into the resultant oil phase melt.

Storage of Hostacerin T-3:
Hostacerin T-3 must be protected from excessively high and low temperatures during storage.
Further information on handling, storage and dispatch is given in the EC safety data sheet.

First aid measures of Hostacerin T-3:
General information:
Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately

After inhalation:
When inhaled remove to fresh air and seek medical aid.

After contact with skin:
In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with soap and water

After contact with eyes:
In case of contact with eyes rinse thoroughly with water

Do not allow to enter drains or waterways

Methods for cleaning up/taking up:
Remove mechanically.
Pick up rest with binding material (eg sawdust, sand, universal binder)

Hand protection:
For long-term exposure:
Butyl rubber gloves.

Minimum thickness (glove): not determined

With solid dry substances permeation is not to be expected, therefore the breakthrough-time for this protective glove has not been measured.

For short-term exposure (splash protection):
Nitrile rubber gloves.

Minimum thickness (glove): not determined

With solid dry substances permeation is not to be expected, therefore the breakthrough-time for this protective glove has not been measured.
These types of protective gloves are offered by various manufacturers.

Please note the manufacturers ́ detailed statements, especially about the minimum thickness and the minimum breakthrough time.
Consider also the particular working conditions under which the gloves are being used.

Eye protection:
Depending on the risk, wear sufficient eye protection (safety glasses with side protection or goggles, and if necessary, face shield.)
