Lauryl Mercaptan is colorless or light yellow liquid.
Lauryl Mercaptan is soluble in methanol, ether, acetone, benzene, ethyl acetate, insoluble in water.
Lauryl Mercaptan is an alkyl thiol that forms a self-assembled monolayer (SAM) and can be used as an organic source of sulfur with balanced physio-chemical properties.

Immiscible with water.
Lauryl Mercaptan (C12H26S, CAS registry No. 112-55-0) is also called n-dodecyl mercaptan, which is a clear liquid.
Lauryl Mercaptan's melting point is -7 °C, and flash point is 87 °C.

Lauryl Mercaptan is stable under normal temperatures and pressures.
Store in a cool and dry place, and keep container closed when not in use.
Pale-yellow or water-white liquid with mild odor; insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents.

Lauryl Mercaptan is a hydrophobic molecule that provides particles with solubility in organic solvents and compatibility with non-polar polymer composite materials as well as promoting dispersion in low surface-energy solvents for coating applications requiring uniform particle deposition.

The thiol group provides a very strong bond to the gold particle surface, leaving the hydrophobic alkyl chain exposed to solution.
Lauryl Mercaptan gives steric stability by providing a physical barrier that prevents particle aggregation in the dried state and allows particles to be dried and re-suspended in organic solvents without particle agglomeration.
