PROTELAN AG 37 acts as an anionic emulsifier and moisturizing agent.
PROTELAN AG 37  is produced from renewable fatty acid and glutamic acid.
PROTELAN AG 37  is highly concentrated and is free of propylene glycol.
PROTELAN AG 37 finds use in natural bath preparations and shampoos.

The Protelan AG 37 is the most recent variant of Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate.
This has few by-products, making previously critical formulas much easier to produce.
Low amount of free fatty acid ensures a clear formula and prevents the formation of fatty metal salts in hard water.
Low concentrations of free glutamate also prevent the formation of discolorations during storage, so that the choice of perfumes and actives is much wider than with more classic variants of this raw material.

In combination with Coco-Sulfate (SULFETAL), the glutamate ensures a lower irritation potential of this natural, but strong surfactant.
For mild products, it can also be combined very well with glucosides (ZUTELAN).
With glucosides, the Protelan AG 37 gives a soft, non-greasy, conditioned feel to skin and hair.
Combinations with these surfactant types result in natural products such as bath foam, shower gel and shampoo.

Protelan AG 37 is possible to produce cold and hot emulsified lotions and creams with the Protelan AG37.
For example for the production of foaming shower lotion, conditioner and facial lotion on a natural basis.
Protelan AG 37 can be used excellently in the production of "green" personal care products.
Protelan AG 37 is an organic sodium salt that is the disodium salt of L-glutamic acid.
Protelan AG 37 contains a L-glutamate(2-).

Protelan AG 37 appears as white or off-white crystalline powder with a slight peptone-like odor. pH (0.2% solution)7.0.

Applications of Protelan AG 37
Protelan AG 37 is used as a stabilizer for various emulsions.
Protelan AG 37 is added to foods and personal care products.

Protelan AG 37 is an extensively used chelator of divalent cations such as Ca2+.
Protelan AG 37 is a chelating agent, a general chemical, and a sequestrant.
In molecular biology applications, Protelan AG 37 is used to minimize metal ion contaminants.
Also used to facilitate enzymatic reactions that could be inhibited by heavy metal traces.
Inhibits enzymes, such as metalloproteases, that require divalent cations for activity.

Industrial synthesis of Protelan AG 37
Protelan AG 37 is produced on the largest scale of any amino acid, with an estimated annual production of about 1.5 million tons in 2006.
Chemical synthesis was supplanted by the aerobic fermentation of sugars and ammonia in the 1950s, with the organism Corynebacterium glutamicum (also known as Brevibacterium flavum) being the most widely used for production.
Isolation and purification can be achieved by concentration and crystallization; it is also widely available as its hydrochloride salt.

Protelan AG 37, being a constituent of protein, is present in foods that contain protein, but it can only be tasted when it is present in an unbound form.
Significant amounts of free Protelan AG 37 are present in a wide variety of foods, including cheeses and soy sauce, and Protelan AG 37 is responsible for umami, one of the five basic tastes of the human sense of taste.
Protelan AG 37 often is used as a food additive and flavor enhancer in the form of its sodium salt, known as monosodium glutamate (MSG).

Protelan AG 37 is an inexpensive and readily available amino acid.
If Protelan AG 37 is heated between 160-180 °C, usually for a few hours, a cyclization reaction occurs to give 5-oxoproline (pyroglutamic acid, 2) in good yield.
Protelan AG 37 is an amino acid used to form proteins.
In the body Protelan AG 37 turns into glutamate.
This is a chemical that helps nerve cells in the brain send and receive information from other cells.
Protelan AG 37 may be involved in learning and memory.
Protelan AG 37 may help people with hypochlorhydria (low stomach acid) or achlorhydria (no stomach acid).

Protelan AG 37 has excellent skin conditioning and moisturizing properties.
Protelan AG 37 also acts as a neutralizer.
Protelan AG 37 has numerous applications in skin care products.

Protelan AG 37 is a the predominant excitatory transmitter in the mammalian central nervous system.
Protelan AG 37 acts at ionotropic and metabotropic glutamate receptors.
