CALCIUM LACTOBIONATE

EC / List no.: 225-668-2
CAS no.: 5001-51-4

Calcium lactobionate is a food additive used as a stabilizer.
Potassium lactibionate is added to organ preservation solutions such as Viaspan to provide osmotic support and prevent cell swelling.
Mineral salts of lactobionic acid are also used for mineral supplementation.; Lactobionic acid, 4-O-?-galactopyranosyl-D-gluconic acid, is a disaccharide formed from gluconic acid and galactose.
The carboxylate anion of lactobionic acid is known as lactobionate.

Chemical Properties
White powder.
Sol in water; insol in alc, ether.

Uses
A hydrated form of lactobionic acid calcium salt, which is used to prepare calcium-induced skim milk gels using different calcium salts.
Supplement (calcium).
Calcium Lactobionate is the calcium salt of lactobionic acid (4-(b, d-galactosido)-d-gluconic acid) produced by the oxidation of lac- tose.
Calcium Lactobionate is soluble in water and is used as a firming agent in dry pud- ding mixes.

Firming agent used in dry pudding mixtures As a sugar acid, lactobionic acid can form salts with mineral cations such as calcium, potassium, sodium and zinc.

Calcium Lactobionate Monohydrate is a salt of lactobionic acid used as a food stabilizer and pharmaceutical ingredient.

Calcium lactobionate belongs to the class of organic compounds known as fatty acyl glycosides of mono and disaccharides.
Fatty acyl glycosides of mono and disaccharides are compounds composed of a mono or disaccharide moiety linked to one hydroxyl group of fatty alcohol or of phosphorylated alcohol (phosphoenol), a hydroxy fatty acid, or to one carboxyl group of a fatty acid (ester linkage) or to an amino alcohol.

Therapeutic uses and effectiveness:
Calcium Lactobionate is used as a firming agent in dry pudding mixtures as a sugar acid
Lactobionic acid can form salts with mineral cations such as calcium, potassium, sodium, and zinc. Calcium lactobionate is a food additive used as a stabilizer

Mineral salts of lactobionic acid are also used for mineral supplementation

Lactobionic acid is composed of a polyhydroxy acid, gluconic acid attached to a monosaccharide, galactose.
This substance is used in the pharmaceutical field, due to its hydrating capacity of the skin, as a preventive agent for cutaneous aging, also acting as a reducer of cutaneous hyperpigmentation and as an antioxidant.
Calcium Lactobionate is known as the major component of the Wisconsin solution (UW) used to preserve organs to be transplanted.
Calcium Lactobionate can also be used as part of the drug delivery system because of its binding capacity to asialoglycoprotein (ASGPR) receptors present in hepatic cells.
An example is its use as a vector of the antitumor drug doxorubicin.
In the food industry, it has been used as an acidulant and stabilizer.

Calcium lactobionate is a Calcium salt of lactobionic acid Calcium lactobionate uses and applications include:
Stabilizer, firming agent in foods, preparation of pharmaceuticals injections and syrups.

Suggested storage of Calcium lactobionate:
