Potassium tripolyphosphate (KTPP) is a chemical substance with the molecular formula K5O10P3. It is hygroscopic in nature and used to form protective films on metal surfaces to enhance corrosion resistance.

Some important physical properties of potassium tripolyphosphate related to corrosion prevention are:

Water resistance that prevents corrosion-causing moisture penetration
Occurs in a powdered form that increases the ease of dispersion and application
Soluble in water, giving it and increased alkalinity and pH
50% potassium tripolyphosphate (KTPP) is mainly used in the following industrial applications:

Metal surface treatment
Water soluble fertilizer production
Softening of hard water

Potassium Tripolyphosphate is generally immediately available in most volumes.
High purity, submicron and nanopowder forms may be considered.
American Elements produces to many standard grades when applicable, including Mil Spec (military grade); ACS, Reagent and Technical Grade; Food, Agricultural and Pharmaceutical Grade; Optical Grade, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia) and follows applicable ASTM testing standards. Typical and custom packaging is available. Additional technical, research and safety (MSDS) information is available as is a Reference Calculator for converting relevant units of measurement.

Potassium Tripolyphosphate can be used for several applications.
Cleaning agent or treatment of metal surfaces for example.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate is suitable for preventing corrosion on different surfaces, Iron, Lead or other metals.

Properties
Potassium Tripolyphosphate (KTPP) is a hygroscopic white material, granular, soluble in water, which gives moderately alkaline solutions.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate is sequestering agent (excellent sequestrant of calcium, magnesium and iron in food products).
Potassium Tripolyphosphate is highly soluble in aqueous solutions with excellent dispersion properties. Potassium Tripolyphosphate is easy to dissolve in water with solubility of 178g, 194g, and 212g in 100 mL of water at 10°C, 25°C, and 50°C respectively.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate has excellent chelating ability and can form stable chelates with Ca2+ and Mg2+ in hard water so as to soften hard water, increase cleaning ability, and remove dirt.
The white precipitate formed from adding 13mL of 1% calcium nitrate solution into 100 mL of 1% potassium pyrophosphate solution can be rapidly chelated to produce a clear solution.

Applications
Potassium Tripolyphosphate can form a protective film on the surface of iron, lead, zine, and other metals so as to prevent surface corroding.
P2O74- has a strong dispersion ability to disperse finely distributed solid particles so that these fine and trace materials can mix evenly.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate has stable pH buffering ability and keep solution pH value unchanged for a long time.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate is used as a builder for soaps, detergents and especially liquid cleaning formulations.

Storage & handling
Keep in cool dry place.
Air transportation: arranged as ordinary goods.

Potassium Tripolyphosphate (KTPP) is a white colourless crystalline powder with no distinguishing odour.
By combining the soluble powder with water it creates an alkaline solution suitable for preventing corrosion on the surface of irons, lead and other metals.

Potassium Tripolyphosphate is a white odorless water-soluble substance.
Potassium Tripolyphosphate is often used as a sequestrant, buffering agent, an emulsifier, and a texturizer in processed meat, fish and cheese.

Potassium tripolyphosphate Application
Sequestering agent for calcium and magnesium in food products; highly soluble in aqueous solutions.

Food contaminant derived from its use as a boiler water additive for the prepn. of steam used in food processing.
Texturiser and sequestrant in foods, mainly as the K/Na double salt PPPi is a salt or acid that contains three phosphate groups ; ; Triphosphoric acid, also tripolyphosphoric acid, with formula H5P3O10, is a condensed form of phosphoric acid.In polyphosphoric acids, it is the next after pyrophosphoric acid, H4P2O7, also called diphosphoric acid.Compounds such as ATP (adenosine triphosphate) are esters of triphosphoric acid.; ; Polyphosphates are hydrolyzed into smaller units (orthophosphates) in the gut before absorption, which may induce a metabolic acidosis.
Triphosphates are salts or esters of polymeric oxyanions formed from tetrahedral PO4 (phosphate) structural units linked together by sharing oxygen atoms.
