Rubixanthin , or natural yellow 27, is a natural xanthophyll pigment with a red-orange color found in rose hips.
As a food additive it used under the E number E161d as a food coloring; it is not approved for use in the USA or EU but is approved in Australia and New Zealand where it is listed as 161d.

Rubixanthin is a carotenoid that is a natural xanthophyll pigment.
Rubixanthin was formerly used as a food colourant (E161d), but approval for this purpose has been withdrawn throughout the European Union.

Rubixanthin has a role as a food colouring and a plant metabolite.
Rubixanthin derives from a hydride of a gamma-carotene.

Rubixanthin A carotenoid that is a natural xanthophyll pigment.
Rubixanthin was formerly used as a food colourant (E161d), but approval for this purpose has been withdrawn throughout the European Union.

Rubixanthin, also known as e 161D or natural yellow 27, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as xanthophylls.
Rubixanthin are carotenoids containing an oxygenated carotene backbone.

Carotenes are characterized by the presence of two end-groups (mostly cyclohexene rings, but also cyclopentene rings or acyclic groups) linked by a long branched alkyl chain.
Carotenes belonging form a subgroup of the carotenoids family.

Xanthophylls arise by oxygenation of the carotene backbone.
Rubixanthin, rubixanthin is considered to be an isoprenoid.

Rubixanthin is a carotenoid compound found in many plants such as spinach, rose hips, and in the petals of various flowers.

A new pigment, called Rubixanthin, a xanthophyll related to y-carotene, was isolated from the fruits of Rosa rubiginosa, by chromatographic analysis, with Al2O3 as adsorbent.
Rubixanthin behaved to adsorbents like cryptoxanthin and showed spectral absorption like γ-carotene.

Rubixanthin formula ascribed is C40H56O: m.p. 160° C. : optically inactive.
Rubixanthin various reactions suggested that the substance is a monocyclic compound, a hydroxy-y-carotene, and a structural formula on these lines is suggested.

As Rubixanthin  nouns the difference between xanthophyll and rubixanthin is that xanthophyll is any of various hydroxy, carbonyl or carboxylic acid derivatives of carotenes while rubixanthin is  a monocyclic xanthophyll pigment found in rose hips and elsewhere.

Rubixanthin, 3 (R)-β,ψ-carotin-3-ol, 3 (R)-hydroxy-γ-carotene, a carotenoid belonging to the group of xanthophylls.

The copper-red R. is contained as a dye in various types of roses and some other higher plants.
The 5'-cis isomer is called gazaniaxanthin and is a coloring ingredient of various Gazania species.

Rubixanthin natural dye extracted from some plants such as sweet briar.
