TWEEN 24

Tween 24 is a 100% bio-based ethoxylated sorbitan ester derived from natural lauric acid and manufactured using the RSPO's Mass Balance System.
This ethoxylate is highly effective in forming O/W emulsions, making Tween 24 suitable for air care, hard surface cleaning, industrial & institutional cleaning, and waxes & polishes applications.
Tween 24 functions as both an emulsifier and solubilizer.

Tween 24 is a polyoxyethylene-polyoxypropylene block copolymer that is composed of two different saturated fatty acid chains.
Tween 24 has been used as a surfactant and stabilizer in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, foods, cosmetics, and other products.
Tween 24 has been shown to inhibit the growth of epidermal cells by binding to epidermal growth factor (EGF) receptors on the cell surface.
The effects of Tween 24 are also mediated through hydrogen bonding with the EGF receptor.
The pharmacokinetic properties of polysorbate 60 have been studied in vitro using human serum.
Tween 24 is used as an excipient in solid dispersions for oral administration and can be administered intravenously or subcutaneously.
Tween 24 is chemically stable at acidic pH levels and hydrochloric acid does not affect its structure.
Tween 24 also has protease activity against trypsin at high temperatures.
A polymer composed of PEG-ylated sorbitan, where the total number of poly(ethylene glycol) units is 20 (w + x + y + z = 20) and a single terminal is capped by a stearate group.

Tween 24 has a faint, characteristic odor and a warm, somewhat bitter taste.
Tween 24 is a mixture of stearate and palmitate partial esters of sorbitol and sorbitol anhydrides condensed with approximately 20 mole of ethylene oxide (C2H4O) for each mole of sorbitol and its mono- and dianhydrides.

Uses
Tween 24 is used as an emulsifier for plastic & polymers, personal care and industrial applications.
Tween 24 is used as an emulsifier.
Suggested applications: cakes, shortenings, milk substitute, chocolate flavored syrup. Product Data Sheet
Tween 24 is an emulsifier manufactured by reacting stearic acid with sorbitol to yield a product which is reacted with ethylene oxide.
Tween 24 is a nonionic, waterdispersible surface-active agent which is very hydrophilic.
Tween 24 is also termed polysorbate 60.
Tween 24 is used in whipped vegetable toppings for overrun and lightness; in cakes for increased volume and fine grain; in icings and confectionery for lightness and syneresis control; and in salad dressing for emulsion stability.
Tween 24 is frequently used with sorbitan monostearate or monoand diglycerides.
The typical usage range is 0.10–0.40%.
