CAS NUMBER: 582-25-2

EC NUMBER: 209-481-3

MOLECULAR FORMULA: C7H5KO2

MOLECULAR WEIGHT: 160.21 g/mol

DESCRIPTION:

A very common way to make E 212 is to oxidize toluene to benzoic acid and then neutralize it with potassium hydroxide.
Another method to synthesize E 212 in laboratory is to hydrolyze methyl benzoate with potassium hydroxide
E 212 is stable at room temperature under normal storage conditions.
Due to its slight hygroscopicity, E 212 should be placed in a sealed container and should avoid exposure to high humidity and high temperature
E 212, the potassium salt of benzoic acid, is a food preservative that inhibits the growth of mold, yeast and some bacteria.
E 212 works best in low-pH products, below 4.5, where it exists as benzoic acid.
Acidic foods and beverages such as fruit juice (citric acid), sparkling drinks (carbonic acid), soft drinks (phosphoric acid), and pickles (vinegar) may be preserved with potassium benzoate.
E 212 is approved for use in most countries including Canada, the United States and the European Union, where it is designated by the E number E212.

E 212 is also used in the whistle in many fireworks.
E 212 is a preservative commonly added to food, beauty, and skin care products.
E 212 is a white, odorless powder that’s obtained by combining benzoic acid and potassium salt under heat.
E 212 is a compound naturally found in plants, animals, and fermented products.
Originally derived from the E 212 resin of certain tree species, it’s now mostly industrially produced.

E 212 salts are typically extracted from salt beds or certain minerals.
E 212 is a synthetic compound in some foods and drinks. Very small amounts can be safe to consume.
E 212 is typically used by food manufacturers as a chemical preservative.
E 212's sometimes used in place of a related preservative sodium benzoate to reduce the food's sodium content.
E 212 helps fight food spoilage, and it can contribute to food's flavor, but like any food additive, it can cause allergic reactions in some people.

E 212 is a potassium salt of Benzoic Acid.
E 212 is manufactured primarily for food and beverage use.
E 212 is a chemical preservative, which in very low concentrations inhibits the activity of the microorganisms.
E 212 is used in carbonated beverages.
E 212 is also used as the whistle in many fireworks.
E 212 is manufactured primarily for food and beverage use.

E 212 is a chemical preservative, which in very low concentrations inhibits the activity of the microorganisms.
E 212 is used in carbonated beverages.
E 212 dissolves in water.
However, E 212 is known as the only organic acid allowed to be used in food.
Due to some properties it has, E 212 is more harmless than some preservatives in some places.

E 212 is among the food additives with the name E 202.
Therefore, the use of E 212 in the food industry has increased.
E 212 is found in the fruit of a plant called rowan tree in nature.
E 212 has no distinct taste or odor.
Although E 212 is slightly soluble in alcohol, its solubility in water is high.

E 212 is used in many food products.
E 212 is effective against many bacteria such as mold yeast.
E 212 is used in food products by packing, sprinkling or spraying.
E 212 is used in many foods and beverages.
Apart from food and beverage, E 212 is used in tobacco, pharmacy, personal care products.

E 212 is used in many areas such as tomato paste, bread, margarine, jam, fish, confectionery, cheese, wine, yogurt, fruit products and bakery products.
Potassium benzoate, the potassium salt of benzoic acid, is a food preservative that inhibits the growth of mold, yeast and some bacteria.
E 212 works best in low-pH products, below 4.5.
Acidic foods and beverages such as fruit juice (citric acid), sparkling drinks (carbonic acid), soft drinks (phosphoric acid), and pickles (vinegar) are preserved with potassium benzoate.
E 212 is a high purity preservative for food and beverage applications with an effective combination of antimicrobial action, low cost, safety, and an excellent odor/taste profile.

E 212 is valued as a low-sodium preservative replacement for sodium benzoate, which also retains the preservation efficacy of benzoic acid.
With a high purity level of at least 99%, E 212 has little to no impact on formulation odor or color.
E 212 is a safe, effective solution for preserving foods and beverages, where it is typically used at 0.1%.
The potassium salt of E 212, is a food preservative that inhibits the growth of mold, yeast and some bacteria.
E 212 works best in low-pH products.
E 212 is used as a chemical preservative.

E 212 is the potassium salt of benzoate.
E 212 is mostly used for food preservation for inhibiting the growth of mold, yeast and bacteria since it can create low pH condition after entering into the cells to suppress the anaerobic fermentation of glucose.
E 212 can also be used in the whistle in many fireworks.
In analytic chemistry, E 212 can be used as eluents for ion chromatography to increase the detector response.
